Guest guest
CANDIDA PROTOCOL POSTPARTUM Information compiled from several listed sources…. Vicky York: Oral fluconazole for ductal mammary candidosis typically is given in a loading dose of 200-400 mg followed by 100-200mg/day for 14 to 28 days. And they say half that dose is probably enough for many women. It's the oral med preferred during lactation because of low milk levels and minimal toxicity. However, it is an expensive med. Taken orally, all antifungal azoles may cause asymptomatic elevations in liver function tests and many have significant interactions with other drugs. Grapefruit seed extract might have worked for you. Orally and directly on the nipples. Other things to try are: glycerin based golden seal, caprylic acid 2 caps twice a day, bifidus, vitamin A and zinc for immunity.. Rinse bras with 1/4 c vinegar in laundry. After feeding rinse nipples with 1 t white distilled vinegar in a cup of water. Wip0e babies bottom with same solution. If your water is chlorinated, fill a pitcher with water and let it sit for 12 hours lightly covered and the chlorine will be dissipated. The chlorine may reduce some of the bacteria that you're trying to restore. Read Homeopathy for Pregnancy, Birth and Babies First Year. Clean bra and bra pads, boil breast pump parts. Garlic 2 cloves a day. The gentian violet is based in alcohol and will ulcerate a baby's skin if used long enough. Be sure to use 1/2 % only once per day for 3-7 days. Vicky You have to treat both the mom and babe. Start with Gentian violet 1% once a day for 4-7 days, no longer, it's in an alcohol base and will ulcerate the baby's mouth eventually. Dip a Q-tip in the stuff and let the baby suck on it, be sure and get the inner cheeks and tongue. Then put the baby to the breast so moms nipples get a treatment too. Boil all artificial nipples in water with vinegar added. Next add Dr. Jack Newman's all-purpose nipple ointment found in compounding pharmacies. Get the ingredients off of his web site. Just type in Jack Newman. Next try Grapefruit seed extract 250 mg 3x a day orally by the mother. A site with info about this stuff is www.nutriteam.com/gse.htm. During this have mom eat lots of garlic and coconut oil and drink kefir, probiotics, drop sugar, eat yogurt. expose nipples to sunlight, rinse them with a vinegar solution. Next add fluconazole 400 mg loading dose to the teatment, then 100 mg twice daily for at least 2 weeks, unti lthe mother is pain free for a week. During all this go ahead and take a supplement of high dose acidophilus 1 cap 2-3 times daily or BioK 1/2 a pot daily. Put on baby's tongue and mother take orally too. Baby dose of fluconazole is 6 mg/kg loading, then 3 mg/kg/day as a single dose. Some people suggest eating yogurt to get good bacteria but ayurveda recognizes one of the chief causes of bacterial imbalance to be the presence of aama which is a sticky toxic mucous that lines the passages (gut and other) of the body. Yogurt is heavy and can easily cause more clogging and increase the sticky toxic layer (this is apparent on the tongue (heavy white coating=aama (undigested material)). When aama is removed then bacteria/parasites have far less of a chance of lodging in the body b/c this aama is a chief source of breeding ground (fermentation from stagnation) and also it feeds the bacterias. Soil based organisms eat bacteria and also eat aama. Probiotic is somewhat comparable, the two together are excellent. Clearing aama requires pungents and bitters (food and herbs). Like ginger tea and neem (careful not to dehydrate so take neem just after food). Also a gentle purgative each night to move out the excess aama, the purgative (1 teasp castor oil, or triphala or other) must be given with a little pungent such as ginger tea. This could be a long chapter if including: local treatments of yeast/bacteria/candida (i.e. Nipples itching) thus use of essential oils (ayurved uses neem oil and or turmeric paste (stains clothes), also candida can come with metal poisoning (from flu shot or dental mercury/other) and also from stagnation of allopathic medicines clogging liver/galblader, also a major cause antibiotic use: must give probiotic when using antibiotics. One way for a mother to treat baby is for the mother to take the herbs/e.oils, etc but also there are safe levels for babies (each case is specific). Avoiding all grains is not necessary, though they must be cooked with spices (pungents and bitters alike). Ayurved avoids all wheat when aama is present b/c wheat is now so hybridized it has an unhealthy amount of sticky gluten. Rye is ok as is spelt and other. Discussion can also include topics of vinegar and bread yeast etc. Perhaps this is useful. There is so much that can be said. I hope this is helpful. Hakim Pawo. Postpartum systemic candida is so painful for the moms ... involves much attention dietary, herbal (can't take neem then internal), topical relief, and they often dislike the amount of oil (sesame) used in the massage. Coconut oil is anticandida among other virtues, and would be massage oil of choice. With suitable pungent spices, I'd also use it more dietarily in the postpartum dietary oleation abundance recommended. Hi aama usualy goes along with low agni ... this is the case anyway postpartum, so extra attentions. I'd include ajwan more often for instance. Caldecott writes: i have treated this many times - its not too difficult but does require some discipline rather than try to invent a purely ayurvedic protocol, the following is an example of my rather eclectic approach: sometimes the problem originates with the mother, sometimes with the baby, and in most cases they are mutually supporting the chronic infection often the issue is associated or concomitant with diaper rash if so, this needs to be treated with adequate ventilation i recommend fresh air and sunlight, amount 15-20 minutes of direct sunlight daily on the bottom and groin avoid diapers whenever possible to treat the infection, rather than skin-sensitizing essential oils, i would use a herbal salve, with soothing herbs such as plantain and comfrey, mixed with antimicrobial herbs such as echinacea and chaparral here is a typical recipe: *** Echinacea root 50 g Chaparral leaf 50 g Plantain leaf 50 g Comfrey root 50 g Grain Alcohol 50-75 mL Olive Oil 1 liter Beeswax (grated) 210 g Salve pots Vitamin E Grind the herb to a coarse grind, moisten with the alcohol, and let stand for 2 – 3 hours. Blend the oil in a blender at a high speed until the sides of the blender feel warm, and then pour herb and oil in a double-boiler over low heat. When the smell of alcohol is gone, allow to cool and strain mixture through cheesecloth, squeezing out the marc. Place oil in a double boiler, add the grated beeswax, and when melted, immediately pour into containers. Add 5-10 drops of vitamin E before the salve sets. *** for diapering, you might also try using a white clay powder, mixed with finely sieved powders of licorice and turmeric (the turmeric however can get messy); you might try barberry (barberry) instead - i stress that the powders MUST be finely sieved, like silk between your fingers if the baby has oral thrush, then there are a variety of methods you can use one is to use a dilute tincture of echinacea: put some a cloth and wipe down the baby's mouth a couple times a day following this you can wash the baby's mouth with whey, the liquid portion from yoghurt, which can reestablish a healthy oral ecology even just a fingerful of yoghurt smeared in baby's mouth can be helpful - here this is pure, organic, preferentially unpasteurized yoghurt to treat thrush on the nipples, they can also be wiped down with echinacea tincture and/or whey/yoghurt and then a salve can be applied, similar to what is used for diaper rash so they can heal up - the salve is non-toxic so it doesn't have to removed prior to feeding, although mom might want to wipe off the excess - fresh aloe gel (kumari) is also helpful, but is bitter and definitely needs to be wiped off before feeding - commercial aloe gel is inferior to the real thing its also important for adequate ventilation of the nipples as well - soggy bras and breast pads should be avoided for open air and sunlight - mom and baby should find a private spot and sunbathe unclothed for 20 minutes daily, if possible as far as treating the mom internally, i would use herbs such as echinacea, barberry and pau d'arco; hingvastak, trisugandha or trikatu can also be helpful it is one of the few times i am enticed to use homeopathic nosodes, such as candida 30x, 10 drops thrice daily also consider beta carotene, vitamins c and e, and zinc to heal up the skin and mucus membranes in terms of diet, a classical anti-candida is key: no dairy, flour, sugar or fermented foods - even fruits should be limited emphasize warming spicy herbs, and no raw foods such as salads Caldecott todd@t... www.toddcaldecott.com Search presents - Jib Jab's 'Second Term'
