Guest guest
Excellent for candida: Soil based organisms (such as Primal Defense or other supplier), these are not to be confused with Probiotics which are also very helpful for candida. Some people suggest eating yogurt to get good bacteria but ayurveda recognizes one of the chief causes of bacterial imbalance to be the presence of aama which is a sticky toxic mucous that lines the passages (gut and other) of the body. Yogurt is heavy and can easily cause more clogging and increase the sticky toxic layer (this is apparent on the tongue (heavy white coating=aama (undigested material)). When aama is removed then bacteria/parasites have far less of a chance of lodging in the body b/c this aama is a chief source of breeding ground (fermentation from stagnation) and also it feeds the bacterias. Soil based organisms eat bacteria and also eat aama. Probiotic is somewhat comparable, the two together are excellent. Clearing aama requires pungents and bitters (food and herbs). Like ginger tea and neem (careful not to dehydrate so take neem just after food). Also a gentle purgative each night to move out the excess aama, the purgative (1 teasp castor oil, or triphala or other) must be given with a little pungent such as ginger tea. This could be a long chapter if including: local treatments of yeast/bacteria/candida (i.e. Nipples itching) thus use of essential oils (ayurved uses neem oil and or turmeric paste (stains clothes), also candida can come with metal poisoning (from flu shot or dental mercury/other) and also from stagnation of allopathic medicines clogging liver/galblader, also a major cause antibiotic use: must give probiotic when using antibiotics. One way for a mother to treat baby is for the mother to take the herbs/e.oils, etc but also there are safe levels for babies (each case is specific). Avoiding all grains is not necessary, though they must be cooked with spices (pungents and bitters alike). Ayurved avoids all wheat when aama is present b/c wheat is now so hybridized it has an unhealthy amount of sticky gluten. Rye is ok as is spelt and other. Discussion can also include topics of vinegar and bread yeast etc. Perhaps this is useful. There is so much that can be said. I hope this is helpful. Hakim Pawo. > candida is another huge topic. Guest guest
Hi All; I'm back and delighted to see your post, Hakim. I have not used neem oil, but sounds like it might work for the moms. Also I would call on organic of course lavender if available - I also use it for itchy stitches, being not only good for itch and healing, but antimicrobial and analgesic, both latter enough to often do the job. Also I offer it for moms who had an epidural, both on site of the needle, and at base of the skull, for the almost count on it headaches and spinal pain. Almost always does the trick. Young Living's Panaway blend is a heavier hitter , or of course helichrysum if you have the good quality oil. The latter's benefits also being to minimize or heal scar tissue, if anything will. For those really concerned, they usually can afford it. Ayurveda also is not so heavy with candida about avoiding fruits - fresh fruits in moderation can be ok. Postpartum systemic candida is so painful for the moms ... involves much attention dietary, herbal (can't take neem then internal), topical relief, and they often dislike the amount of oil (sesame) used in the massage. Coconut oil is anticandida among other virtues, and would be massage oil of choice. With suitable pungent spices, I'd also use it more dietarily in the postpartum dietary oleation abundance recommended. Hi aama usualy goes along with low agni ... this is the case anyway postpartum, so extra attentions. I'd include ajwan more often for instance. Back to my dinner - Did you update your handout in October, Vicki, like you said you were going to? Sorry for the delay on my part too! Guest guest
Martha, do you mean the postpartum doula stuff or yeast stuff? I haven't had time to do either, but am wondering which you are speaking of. I got a new job as the breastfeeding support group leader and the new mother/baby support group leader for a hospital and is taking a lot of my time. It's not my ideal job, being in the hospital, with their conservative notions.
