Guest guest
Hi all, Just got back from Portland! I had a very nice time! The MANA conference was wonderful and a few extras like soaking in some natural hot springs all afternoon and driving to the coast! ....“There is a disease, the name of which escapes me, where the mom's skin in general itches throughout the pregnancy and the disease disappears soon after the pregnancy is over...” Vicky
Guest guest
The rest of Rasa's post - I am just catching up with my email. I believe the name of the pregnancy itch is PUPPP (Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plagues of Pregnancy) it is a rash that looks like lesions that begin as red bumps that are often surrounded by a narrow pale halo that later become confluent. In most cases the rash clears up within one week of delivery. In 90% of patients who have this out break it begins on the abdomen. Itching can be relieved with cool, wet compresses, oatmeal baths and some women have been able to relive itching by taking evening primrose oil internally which helps to balance natural pregnancy hormones. I do not know the ayurvedic remedy. Take care - Your aspiring servant, Rasa Vilasini d.d. Lotus Birthing Services Professional Labor Support Rasa V. Sorry, somehow I don't know what happened, it was supposed to post! But please keep sig file to 5 or 6 lines - I have been having to do quite a bit of editing of blank extra spaces and extra lines - thanks - Martha) Rashes in Ayurveda are about excess pitta, and skin is related to liver overload/impurities(pitta). The excess heat of late pregnancy manifesting not infrequently commonly dissappears after the birth. I'd be curuious to hear more about this too. Many usual things are contraindicated at this time (aloe, amalaki, strong bitters, bowel cleansing if constipated), although gentle blood and liver support such as with guduchi and dandelion root/ " coffee " and such would probably help. Also for topical quick support, simple organic oil of lavender, or mixed with some Rosalina or other tea tree, maybe ylang ylang (all would help the itch, inflammation, oxgenation, skin purification and healing for the skin,) so I would call on these for this situation, or similar body/skin reactions. The named disease in my opinion is not usually the issue, rather that some people's liver/blood/skin etc act this way due to the nature of their imbalances. By the way, Himali wrote me today she had a healthy 8 plus pound baby on the 14th at high noon! We will be talking shortly and I'll ask if she still has the itchy nipple problem! - Martha _____ Rasa Vilasini [simpleliving] Tuesday, October 19, 2004 12:22 PM ayurveda back from Mana and pregnancy rash info Hi all, Just got back from Portland!
