Guest guest
Vicki, You said you were having trouble finding the posted files. Here's how I found them, even on the postpartumdoulas site where I found you. (where 3 articles on postpartum depression are posted. I've the impulse to post one too soon First go to (I get there by remembering and it goes there too). On the left you will see listed all the you have membership with. Click on the group, then you will come into probably it's home page. Anyway, on the left sidebar there is a list of links you can click - Messages, Chat, Files, Photos, LInks, Members etc. You should be able to click on any which have content, anyway. I don't have stuff up on most of those options, but several files are available. Let me know if you are still having problems. Marty
Guest guest
Marty: I found the files, VERY interesting. You are one busy woman! It's great talking with someone who has been doing this for a long time. how did you discover postpartum doulas at all 12 years ago? Vicky Vicky - I literally was called. I had wanted the honor to be called to be a midwife, and was studying a home study course (medical terminology at that time, and no local midwife then)...BORING! and was called and asked based upon my already exhibited interest in natural childbirth, medicine, and ayurveda if I would care to receive this training. Very fortunate I was. Living in a small town in Iowa where Ayurveda was receiving much attention from the blessings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi for all us TM practioners to benefit, ayurvedic physicians from India with equivalent to an MD in training were being rotated through that little town. Those MDs stateside there who were wanting exposure and education/training were getting it, and many free community lectures and other options for us; this was in the late 1970's and 1980s. The Maharishi Ayurveda Mother & Baby program came out 3 years before I concieved Corey; I received the program with him, my 3rd child 17 years ago starting the 26th of this month for 6 weeks care. Started publishing articles a year later, almost published in Mothering then they changed their mind after months of wanting to. etc. Received the training in 1991, I think, moved to BOulder in 1994 and started private practice there that fall. It has been a leap of faith all the way, parting the waters of ignorance, educating the public, finding what works and doesn't. Giving away so much, undervaluing myself, all these things. But also it has been such a gift of magic in my life, with so many unseen but strongly felt blessings supporting me whenever I have put my attention and faith back in this direction, trusting the Divine to support that which needs to happen for the good of all. Many times I've felt, oh, this is too much (with my attention not just on care, but on training, and the business side of it all, publicity, being a single mom, etc) and each time ... there is just no question really. The results are precious and rare in this country. The ayurvedic herbal (outside 4 basic preparations) as well as the broader scope of Women's Health care and Ayurveda; I learned at the Rocky Mountain Institute of Yoga and AYurveda while auditing one of the courses we had structured as prerequisite to my part of the AyurDoula certification program Dr. Buhrman helped me offer there int he mid 1990's. Such a blessing! Also a major gift God insisted I receive was the therapeutic grade essential oils/uses, which I was turning my nose up at until I couldn't resist my curiosity why this woman who had been a master/national trainer with Hanae Kroger, master herbalist, was now working almost exclusively with essential oils. 2 PPD clients in one week who were not responding fast enough was enough for me to ask for help and WOW! The power for clean and rapid turnaround ... OK, God, I said. " I " ll use them. " That is for another evening. Let yourself have the desire, is what I have learned, and the means follows. However long it takes, that is another discussion, but it is not just about where there is a will, but what is in the heart Love, Martha
Guest guest
thank you for being so open. Yes, I also found that I was able to achieve about anything I wanted once I realized I wanted to/had the interest. I have been reading Dr. Lad's home remedy book. I'm excited about trying out the results on some of these things. Some of them are hard. like smearing sesame oil on my face and in my hair, enema's, figuring out what to eat for a Vatta who loves potatoes; learning the diet guidelines alone are time consuming. I can see why your course is so long. There is much to know just about postpartum women and newborns and lactation. Are there any other ayurvedic pp doulas in the country who are practicing? Are they members of this group.
