Guest guest
Alobar, The added salt is probably the--or at least one of the--problems. Recently I recommended " The Gerson Therapy " on this list. Dr. Gerson cured Dr. Albert Schweitzer of diabetes when Dr. S. was in his late seventies and the man lived completely cured of the disease for another twenty years--on a saltless diet. But of course there's more to the therapy than this. Your Vitamix would have to go. <g> Claire
Guest guest
Over the past few weeks, I have noticed a swelling in my left foot. No pain or tenderness. Edema? Water retention? My right foot is fine. I have diabetes with peripheral neuropathy. I had a non-healing ulcer in my rt-foot over a year back, but it has been fine now for over a year. I am thinking the right foot may have worse circulation than the left foot so maybe that is why the left foot shows swelling. I am not sure as to the origin or the problem or what I need to do to re-balance. Doctors & tests are out of the question as I have no money for either. Over the past month or so I have been indulging in a treat of pistachio nuts 4-5 days a week. I located a source of shelled pistachio nuts which I make into pistachio nut butter in my VitaMix. I have been eating about an ounce of the butter a day. I am thinking the increased salt intake may have something to do with the swelling. Maybe some other change I have made to my diet may be the culprit, but I am not sure what. Any thoughts or suggestions? Alobar
Guest guest
Hi Mindy, <What about sea salt?> I'm afraid nothing except the organic sodium that " comes with " certain veggies such as celery. I think giving up salt is difficult, but not impossible, and it's amazing how the taste buds will adapt and become in some ways more sensitive. I've been salt-free for six months now. Guest guest
--- Does the swelling go down (eventually) if you put your feet up - especially if you raise your feet to a higher level than your heart? My Mother used to have an enormous ankle (and heart trouble) My brother (66) has started to suffer the same, and My sister (55) has suffered with oedema for sometime (and high blood pressure) she uses grapeseed extract to successfully control the condition. None of the above suffered from diabetes I might add. Ray. What about sea salt? Mindy
Guest guest
Penel, <Clare, Do you iodine suppliment with sea weed or what?> Since I don't do well with dried foods or herbs (maybe because of molds), seaweeds aren't an option for me. I know my thyroid is low (from low morning temps and because of the chronic fatigue syndrome), so in addition to eating salmon every day (also for the omega 3s) I've been using an external application of iodine. But the stain is supposed to last 24 hours before you know you're " full " and I never get much past 12 hours, so I know there's still a need there. I've been thinking of buying Lugol's Solution (used by Gerson in his therapy) online which is the only place you can get it without a prescription. Anyone out there . . ., I have found a ceviche recipe really helps me eat the salmon " raw " but is it really raw after the lime juice works on it--that is, raw in terms of live enzymes?
