Guest guest
Alobar, Yes one day after lots of suffering we will be able to help others. In the meantime and while suffering where are the others who could help us? Where is the support we need? Where is the understanding and knowledge to ease those difficult symptoms? I have plans to look at herbal help for withdrawal in my dissertation though. I know alcohol abuse centres are staffed by former addicts and it makes sense to trust someone who has been through what you are going through. I have had several well meaning therapists just saying to 'tough it out' when they had no idea what it felt like. I hope that you are in good health Andy > Sorry things are rough for you now, but you will oneday be in > a position to help others in a similar situation. It is (imo) up to each person to discover *an* answer -- each for him or her self. The list rules here on Gettingwell list specifically say we should not discuss religion here. I know from my experience on other lists which do not have such a rule, that it is all to easy for folks to get very excited over some way to connect with inner strength & then to come to believe that what they have found is *the* answer for everybody else. When 3 or more people all come up with different answers, and each person believes s/he has discover *the* answer, things can get frustrating, and feelings can easily get hurt. So, trying not to get so specific as to hurt anyone's feelings, I'd say the support we need must come from inside ourselves plus whatever links we may have with a spiritual path or inner conviction. We must each learn to help ourselves. It is up to each one of us to sort thru all the conflicting beliefs about herbs, medicines, vitamins, detoxifying our bodies, and whatever else we may read about. It is up to each of us to read, read more, and take lots of notes. It is up to each of us to distill all this information and false leads down to something manageable. Some info may look good but it may be way more expensive than we can afford. Some info seems like it is either wishful thinking, and/or just a scheme to make money for those selling it. Once we narrow down the options we have at our disposal, It is up to each of us to begin to experiment upon ourselves. It is up to each of us to decide whether to take prescription drugs, and/or whether to use herbs or vitamins, or supplements, & /or whatever else we may feel might work. It is up to each of us to share what we have experimented with & what we each feel are that procedure's good points & its negative aspects. It is up to each one of us to learn what we can from books, websites, and e-lists, and then share what we believe is useful with all who are interested. It is up to each of us to ask questions. Again & again, if need be. Not looking for magic universal answers, but for some idea we may have over-looked. And ultimately, it is up to each one of us to apply those ideas into our own lives in the way(s) we feel are the absolutely best way(s). Then, it is up to each one of us to change/modify what we do as we discover way(s) which seem like they might be better. Experts are good for advice, but real change must come from our own personal strength of conviction. Which comes back around to the task of finding that strength of conviction. Alobar PS I do hope I did not step over the line & talk personal philosophy too much on list. Not meaning to upset anyone.
