Lynne,

It might help you and your boyfriend to consider the possibility that the answer

isn't an absolute " Pass " on one diet or the other--only what works for the

individual. One interesting approach to this individual consideration is Dr.

Peter D'adamo's work in the Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type book. There are others

as well--such as the Metabolic Typing book. The important thing is to look

into, and perhaps try, more than one approach, paying attention to the signals

from your own body and then making this oh-so-crucial decision for yourself.

Good luck to you.

I've recently joined gettingwell and find it a wonderful source of

information. I've recently run into a conflict about diet and would like

some advice. My boyfriend is a vegetarian and is very involved in animal

rights. He knows I've been on a paleodiet and I thought he accepted that,

but when we recently started living together he got upset about it and is

pressuring me to eat vegetarian foods, especially at home. He's convinced

that the Neil Barnard low fat vegetarian diet is the most healthy. I sent

him to some paleodiet sites, but he's extremely bright and found all sorts

of logical inconsistencies in the arguments. Unfortunately, he sees the

inconsistencies only in my diet and not his own.

As I'm in the high risk category with respect to breast cancer and also have

macular degeneration, I have to be extremely careful of what I eat. I'm also

menopausal and put on weight easily (after a few days of eating pasta with

him, I started gaining weight rapidly, any I can't afford to do that.). So

I'm very worried about adopting a low fat vegetarian diet. I'd be grateful

about any advice and views about this. Also, since my boyfriend is so

scientific and logical (when it suits him to be), I'd appreciate any

references to major scientific studies backing up my need to eat differently

from him. Of course, I may be wrong about eating a paleodiet, and would

welcome views on that too.

Thanks so much,

Lynne
