Carcinogens, or cancer causing bullets, just bounce off the well-nourished. Avoiding carcinogens carries no extra benefits. Being well nourished is not just protection against cancer, it's protection against all disease. Too bad you can't be well nourished in America. Guest guest
Dear Chi, Your response, is quite one sided when the dealing with the biology of cancer. Yes, I believe that the nutritional level of the individual is paramount to the immune functions ability to protect against cancer. That is one side of the equation. The other is of equal importance. The process of toxic damage to the inner structure of the cell and the consequent cancer cell. It is dependent on to what quatity the sytem is able to handle. To say that the carcinogen is unimportant (bounce off any well nourished body) is very wrong. It is dependent on the amount of carcinogens present and damage caused vs. the amount of protection afforded by the immune system. Any system can be overwhelmed by carcinogens, if produced in sufficient quatities. One need only look to what happens in toxic catastrophic events events to see this. And has been shown in many laboratories for something like 70 - 80 years. Approximatly 50% of the survivors of the atomic bomb dropped in Japan, during WWII, developed cancer (primarily leukemia) as well as a very high portion of those exposed at Chernobyl. Chemical toxins act in the same way. If present if sufficient quatities, they can easily overwhelm the body's ability to handle them. In industrial acidents around the world, cancer is a common occurance afterwards. The $64 dollar question is what is the cancer/toxic vs immune function load amount to tip the scales. That is individual to each person and their genetic, nutritional, immune system makeup. Do I believe that nutritional support is the best way to protect oneself from cancer. Yes. Please look at our links page and you will see reams of nutritional and cancer information. As to the other aspect of cancers. I suggest that everyone protect themselves from all toxic substances and not be foolhardy enough to think that they are bullet proof because they consider themselves well nourished. That is absolute foolishness. It is easy to fall into the trap, for most people, of obtaining one's knowledge from the commercial sites on the web selling something. They tend to tell only one aspect (whichever one they are selling) in our culture. It may be the only one that they have exposure to. That is part of the reason of this site. To try and approach these issues in a non commercial environment, so we can look at them more fully.
