When I had to do a major cut-back on carbos, I found the job easier once I cut out flour, potatoes, sugar, all sauces containing MSG, corn sugar, salt, etc.), caffeine, etc. Tobacco, rage, alcohol, sleep dep can also trigger carbo cravings. After a year on a very simple diet, I can now have some canned goods or condiments which have small amounts of things I cut out a year ago without triggering a binge effect. From my perspective, moderation after a period of abstinence is far more efficacious than trying to cut back on carbos. I also use 400 mg of Chromium twice a day. Guest guest
Evening Kevin, >Anyone have any recommendations as to what type of supplements are most >effective at controlling carbohydrate cravings? Sometimes people love the carbs so much, they want the craving to continue. <grin> All jokes aside, I don't think supplements are the key to " not wanting carbs " . Instead, I think the key is the other foods you eat. For example, try this. Eat two large pork chops and 3 fired eggs at each meal, 3 times per day and see how many carbs you crave. This may be a little on the extreme, but I think you see the point I am making. There are some carbs that I love as much as ever. I can walk by the cookie jar many times per day, as long as I have eaten enough other food. If I get so busy I fail to eat any decent foods, the cookie jar looks better each time I walk by. After about the 10th time, I will grab a cookie. ( I know...... I should destroy the cookie jar ) One great food we overlook is boiled eggs. I eat them more when hunting and hiking than any other time. They are so convenient. And if you wait until you are very hungry, they are delicious. One day 3 of us went on a dirt bike exploration. One guy brought a good supply of boiled eggs. He dumped them into the small ice chest with no protection. When we stopped for lunch, we had scrambled boiled eggs mixed with ice. What a mess, and no lunch. Every since that day, I take whatever precautions needed to protect the boiled eggs. They are still a bit fragile, even when hard boiled. Often people do not give us enough information about the foods they eat for anyone to make serious, calculated suggestions as to corrections. Not that any of us are the genius it would take to solve a problem by any means. We should not be ashamed of what we eat. Everyone needs improvements. Often I eat a meal I am not proud of in any respect. Tonight I had red beans with venison sausage, cornbread, and onion. Other than that, all I have had all day was my protein drink and about two ounces of trailmix. It is 8:30 pm and I have two or three more hours work to do. Later I may eat some fruit or cottage cheese. At the end of some days, I feel guilty about what I have eaten. So..... tomorrow will likely be a better day. To err is human. The problem is many people error every day. That is a disaster waiting to happen. Eat more fats and proteins, and the carb problem will disappear. You want the niacin flush (skin turning red & tingly). > > This is quite hard not being able to have any carb almost or worst not > digesting any. I find that if I eat full nutritious meals which satisfy me, I have almost no carbo cravings. If my meals are not satisfying or if I do not eat regularly, I crave carbos. Guest guest
L-Glutamine is supposed to help with cravings. I hope 5-HTP does too because I'm taking it. jp Anyone have any recommendations as to what type of supplements are most effective at controlling carbohydrate cravings? I have been told 5-HTP is effective, but the dosage required is too large. Also, anyone have any experience with L-Glutamine? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks, Kevin
Guest guest
Hello, I finally get the message: " For example, try this. Eat two large pork chops and 3 fired eggs at each meal, 3 times per day and see how many carbs you crave " I used to eat a lot, almost no bread and very little pasta and it works. I was slim, healty and doing lots of work. A good reminder is very often necessary. Thank you, Diane, ----Original Message Follows---- Wayne Fugitt <wayne Gettingwell Gettingwell Craving Carbs Mon, 18 Nov 2002 20:35:49 -0600 Evening Kevin, >Anyone have any recommendations as to what type of supplements are most >effective at controlling carbohydrate cravings?
