help with gum disease

Dear Sturn,

If it were me, I would look at the gum disease as a symptom rather

than an end disease.

It could be indicative of a further health proble or a serious

nutritional defeiciency.

The immune system cannot not stop disease if it is impaired or

lacking in the basic tools (nutrients) to work fully.

Teeth and gum problems are a good indicator of this.

Large amounts of vitamin C (yes, vit. C again) as well as all 50+

nutrients must be present for your system to work properly. Nutrients

act syergystically together and not alone.

S,

Since you've requested additional tips for diminishing pockets,

below is the protocol I use. I got it from a holistic dentist over a

decade ago when I had gum disease with moderate pockets.

I've used it now for 12 years with excellent results. In fact, every

few years I relocate and each new dentist remarks on my

fabulous oral health -- no pockets and no signs of periodontal

disease. (Surprisingly, no one ever asks what I do.)

When I first started the protocol, I ALWAYS used the rubber tip

stimulator to work the mixture under all my gums (pockets or

not). Now, with the pockets gone, I use the stimulator only

occasionally, but I still follow the rest of the protocol diligently for

at least a week each month. The rest of the time I use regular

toothpaste (without fluoride). Sometimes, I substitute Betadine

Mouthwash/Gargle for the hydrogen peroxide. This is my own

" take " on the recipe, my way to hopefully outsmart the

mutation-happy bacteria.

Recipe for Periodontal Health

Dental disease is associated with a variety of bacteria types. In

order to eradicate the organisms, both mechanical and chemical

methods are needed. Varying the dentifrices is advisable so that

the bacteria will not become resistant. Your dental hygienist will

demonstrate methods and recommend solutions for your

particular needs. The following is a list of ingredients and

methods of use.

BAKING SODA / PEROXIDE METHOD

Ingredients:

* baking soda

* hydrogen peroxide 3%

* salt (sea, table or Epsom)

* water

Tools:

* soft toothbrush

* floss

* Butler rubber tip stimulator

Preparation:

Mix approximately one tablespoon soda to one capful peroxide.

Add enough water to make a moist paste. Sprinkle a dash of

salt.

Directions:

Dip toothbrush into paste. Brush at the gum margin as

instructed [tooth by tooth, depositing the paste]. Repeat as many

times as necessary to treat all gum line areas. Expectorate, but

before rinsing, floss to carry the remaining paste between the

teeth and under the gum. Rinse vigorously with warm water.

If you are aware of the location of particularly deep pockets, dip

the tip of the rubber tip stimulator into the mixture and work the

paste into the pockets.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

HI! My name is RitaRAINBOW_WOLF2656. GARGLING WITH SALT WATER +

PUTTING A WET TEA BAG WILL REDUCE ANY SWELLING + HELP WITH THE POCKETS. LET ME

KNOW HOW YOU MAKE OUT WITH THESE TWO SUGGESTIONS. THANKS RITA

I don't recall if anyone already mentioned Co Q 10 but in my personal experience

it does reduce pocket depth and improves the appearance of gums (in my dentist's

opinion when he looked at my gums). The new Q-Gel is the most absorbable and

most powerful way to take it. www.epic4health.com is where I last bought mine.

p,

yes, thank you. this is exactly what i am looking for. i shall start today as

a matter of fact. one question. how long did it take to notice an improvement?

realizing everyone is different etc.

did you ever have to go to a periodontist? or did your procedure heal your gums

without the specialist?

also, the hydrogen peroxide, do you need the oral type or will any hydrogen

peroxide 3% work?

thank you so much,

S,

In answer to your questions...

> how long did it take to notice an improvement?

It depends on what you mean.

The very first time I tried the protocol, my mouth & gums felt

totally different, absolutely clean like never before. I could almost

feel the bacteria dying and the pockets healing.

Within a few days, my entire mouth seemed healthier.

I returned to my dentist for an objective assessment a month into

the protocol. He again measured my pockets and took samples

of bacteria from around my mouth, which we examined under a

microscope. (Pretty cool, huh. He had done this too before I

began the treatment. It was amazing to see the number and

types of bacteria living in my mouth. Kinda yucky, but very

motivating.) Anyway, comparing before to after (1 month later), I

had massive improvement in pockets and virtually all the nasty

bacteria were gone!!

> did you ever have to go to a periodontist? or did your

procedure heal your gums without the specialist?

I've never seen a periodontist. My gums healed using this

procedure only.

> also, the hydrogen peroxide, do you need the oral type or will

any hydrogen peroxide 3% work?

I just use the regular hydrogen peroxide you can buy at virtually

any drug or grocery store (I didn't know there were oral vs.

non-oral types).

A couple things to consider based on what I've learned over the

years:

* The rubber stimulator is VERY important because it helps to

push the antibacterial mixture down into the pockets where the

bacteria is. These can be purchased for about $3.50 in most

drug stores.

* The hydrogen peroxide not only helps to kill the bacteria but, by

foaming, helps to pull the mixture deeper into the pockets.

* The salt is a good all-round antimicrobial. I noticed others

wrote you about using it in a rinse, which is a good idea too.

* The baking soda not only helps clean your teeth and remove

tartar, but also alkalizes your mouth & gums, which discourages

the growth of bacteria.

* Don't be surprised if your gums sting a little (but not

uncomfortably so) the first few times. If it's too uncomfortable, try

using less hydrogen peroxide and more water. As your

gums/pockets heal, you can gradually increase the peroxide to

water ratio. Just remember to never use more peroxide than

your mouth is comfortable with.

Let me know if you need more info, and good luck!

p,

thanks for the info. i actually used your system today and i must admit that my

mouth and teeth felt really really clean.

the gum and pocket area did sting a bit--it passed. i wondered if it was too

aggressive for my gums but i know a periodontist is aggressive. i bought the

rubber tip stimulator tonight so haven't yet tried it but it all makes sense.

one other question, how many times a day did you do this?

Great!

You might have scrubbed too hard. Brush lightly, get the mixture

where it needs to be and let it do its job. You might also want to

use more water, less peroxide until you're healed. My gums only

" sting " when infected, even slightly. Once healed, there's no pain

at all.

Good question. I'm trying to remember back 12 years... Initially, I

think I did the " full treatment " (mixture, stimulator & flossing)

twice a day until my mouth was fully healed. I then dropped

down to the full treatment once a day. Now I do it diligently for

about a week a month, though I probably should do it a bit more

often (laziness on my part). My best advice is to listen to what

your mouth is telling you.

You are treating the inside gums (tongue side) too, right? I also

lightly brush my tongue.
