Enzymes

This is something I discovered about 4 years or so ago and I will put

it on

here for whatever it may help.

I got it from a subscription to Health Sciences Institute. I use plant

based digestive enzymes and I believe they have made a difference.

Enzymes

In recent days I have become aware of the possible need for the use of

supplemental enzymes, particularly in older people.

When one is thirty, the pancreas makes all the enzymes needed for

complete

digestion and assimilation of nutrients, but with advancing age from

that

point on I understand that there is a continuous drop in the ability of

the

pancreas to manufacture these enzymes

..

There are no enzymes in cooked foods as heating above 118 degrees

Fahrenheit

destroys enzymes. Eating raw fruits and vegetables provides some

enzymes,

but not usually enough. This might be a clue as to some of the value

from

juicing raw vegetables.

About five years ago I knew of a man about four years older than I who

had

prostate cancer with a PSA of 73 in September. He ate nothing but

fresh

fruits and vegetables and flaxseed oil and cottage cheese and by

December

the PSA had dropped to 13. He and his wife were thrilled. He had no

other

treatment. I am wondering if a lot of the improvement did not come

because

of the extra enzymes he was getting from the fresh fruits and

vegetables and

their enhancement of the effect of the Omega 3. This morning I read an

article taken from a Life Extension Magazine that provided evidence

that

that was what happened.

Heartburn, Acid reflex, gas, diarrhea, and constipation can result from

the

body's increasing inability to digest food. Maldigestion can

contribute to

recurrent infections, skin problems, hormonal disturbances, arthritis,

allergies, weight loss, joint and back pain, heart disease, and even

cancer.

There have been enzymes supplements of animal origin, but now

researchers

have made exciting new discoveries about the use of plant-based enzymes

to

treat such diseases as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, celiac disease,

food

allergy and cardiovascular disease.

Our bodies need Amylase to break carbohydrates down into simple

glucose,

lipase to dissolve fats into fatty acids, and protease to reduce large

protein molecules to amino acids. Enzymes made from a fungus, A.

oryzae,

have been found to be very effective in digesting lactose. An

excellent

product called Assimilate has these enzymes and has been found in a

well

known research laboratory [Mayo Clinic] to dramatically increase

absorption

of many nutrients [including selenium, zinc, and essential fatty acids]

by

up to 70%.

If the body is short of enzymes for digestion, white blood cells are

brought

into play as they do have enzymes and they will attack the food

patricles to

break them down. While they are thus engaged they cannot be doing the

jobs

they should be doing fighting diseases and abnormalities such as

cancer.

Assimilate is available from VitaMedics, 19142 South Molalla Ave.,

Oregon

Ciry, OR 97214, toll free 1- 800 - 216 - 2724, regular (503) 656 -

fax 450 - 656 - 2992. I have recently discovered that VitaMedics has

another product called Mega-Zyme. I have been informed that this

product is

superior to Assimilate when fighting cancer.

An excellent enzyme product that has a formula identical with

Assimilate

is available from Sullivan Creek Distributing, 258 Sullivan Creek Lane,
