When this battle to educate the public about the dangers of these drugs began in the early 90's, Leonard Finz, an ex-NY Supreme Court Justice, and I did a radio show together out of Salt Lake City. Mr. Finz stated then that where this battle would be won is in the courtroom - it would be the courtroom battles that would show the world the dangers of these drugs. Because I knew he was right I began to focus on that area. My book was written to assist attorneys and victims in their court cases. I obtained my doctorate degree and began to testify as an expert witness in these cases. And I also worked to assist victims to find attorneys who would take their cases. In June of 2001 we witnessed the widespread publicity gained by the Paxil case of Donald Schell in Wyoming. Two incredibly brilliant attorneys, Andy Vickery and Jim Fitzgerald, argued successfully that taking only two Paxil pills had caused Mr. Schell to go over the edge and shoot and kill his wife, daughter, infant granddaughter and himself. The word of this case traveled swiftly throughout the media and the legal realms educating many to the dangers of these drugs. Behind the scenes were years of searching for the attorney who would take the case. Kathleen Cunningham out of Jerry Spence's office and I determined that this case must be heard before a jury and worked for 3 1/2 years to make that happen. Was it a lot of work? Yes. Were we paid for our efforts? No, nor did we expect that. Was it worth it? YOU BET IT WAS!!!! To see one of these companies held liable for the terribly violent deaths of four innocent victims... to see the cunning craftiness of this company to make $$$ at any cost finally exposed in the media ... to see a few of the many deaths somewhat compensated for, etc., etc., was all worth it! Would this case have made it to court without those efforts? It is not likely. Nor would it have made it to court without other critical pieces of the puzzle in place as well. But without THAT piece it would not have made it. Now I am offering you the opportunity to be a part of this. About 1 1/2 years ago Mark Taylor, the first boy shot at Columbine, contacted me to see if I could assist him in getting the Columbine case into court. This monumental effort is why you have not had many news updates from me for most of this year. I apologize, but it has taken so much of my time and I know the amount of exposure this case will bring to this issue. We are at a very critical point in this case and we need help from all of you. Some of you are aware of the large amount of funds needed to get these cases into court. To date Mark has spent about $35,000 while the drug company has paid out an estimated $2 million fighting this case! Of that $35,000 spent by Mark, just over $30,000 came from one of our group, Lisa Van Syckl, whose own daughter had terrible reactions to several of these drugs. Lisa is doing this because she wants to make our schools safe for all of our children and she wants the world to see the dangerous potential of these drugs. She is very concerned about teens being given these drugs. There is no doubt in the mind of anyone involved in this case that Luvox was the cause of Eric's shooting Mark Taylor 7 - 13 times in the chest that fateful day at Columbine. Eric was a good kid before the drug. Most of what you have heard in the media about Eric is not true. Mark Taylor should not have survived his wounds. Those were 9mm bullets he took in the chest. He feels he survived to fight this battle against these drugs. He KNOWS the drugs made Eric do what he did and has told the Harris family that he forgives Eric. Few things have given greater comfort to this family ripped apart by the drug-induced rampage of their son. Obviously Mark's medical bills have been outragous. I have lost count of the number of surgeries. I believe it has been four and he is now facing the fifth. He does not have the funds to take this case to court. We need some of those who were so generous when Columbine first happened to come forward now to stop another Columbine from happening by exposing what caused this in the first place. I don't care if it is only $5 you can spare to send to Mark for his case, we need it by tomorrow, if not sooner! Funds can be mailed to: Columbine Legal Defense Fund PO Box 1044 West Jordan, UT 84084 Thank you for your continued support in this ongoing battle!
