Possibly birds fly that fast, but many are not migratory. So, any ideas on how the west Nile virus has propagated so quickly? Wayne

Perhaps at least one finger should be pointed at man & his combustion engine? Look at our mass shipping across the nation whether it be plane, train or automobile (more likely semi truck). Many a creature, both foe & friend, become entrapped inside these & are rapidily transported to where ever the next destination decided by man happens to be. Just a thought! Just a thought! > More than just mosquitoes. As a kid in New York city I located a big yellow & black ground spider which I (after much library research) tentatively identified as a tropic spider. Here in New Orleans, we have many different insects which arrived here by boat along with tropical fruit. I have heard rumors that Vietnamese cobras are beginning to breed in South-Western Louisiana. I am sure others could add many pages to this list from their own experience. Alobar
Guest guest
The local vets are saying it's got to be traveling with the mosquitos on trucks. The pattern is not following traditional bird migration so it has to be traveling by truck. vache920 [vache920] Gettingwell, Wayne Fugitt <wayne@f...> wrote: So, any ideas on how the west Nile virus has propagated so quickly? Guest guest
---According to some recent news articles West Nile is being spread rapidly thru blood transfusions. There are several instances where this has been confirmed just recently as in the case of the breast- feeding Mom who contracted west nile in the hospital. This is not the first time tainted blood has been problematic in spreading a local virus. It is not uncommon to contract HIV in this manner. With all the existing technology it seems as if something could be done to clean up the blood banks. Seems as if this should be the number one priority!
