Guest guest
Hi All, i have just come out of hospital after having a cancerous kidney removed and am having trouble drinking fluids. All i drink is about 1 liter or less per day and that i have to almost choke on. I just feel bloated all the time. I never had this trouble before the op, only after. What is annoying me is i am drinking all the wrong liquids, milk shakes, sugary drinks etc, all the good drinks i had before are repulsive to me now, the same goes for food. The only pills i now take are Tramadol and Pamol, pain killers, that don't always work. Does anyone know of something i can take to make me thirsty ?? as i should be having 3 liters per day at this stage. Hope someone can help. Regards, Dorothy. Guest guest
Dorothy, So sorry to hear that you have had to have surgery and do hope that you make a very speedy recovery. it sounds to me as if you need to do a colon cleanse but not sure if you can after the surgery. I am sure that you can get advice on that but a colon cleanse would get rid of your 'sweet craving' and help to clear the toxins from the meds out of your body - hopefully this would enable you to start drinking good old fashioned water again. Good luck. Marianne > i have just come out of hospital after having a cancerous kidney removed and > am having trouble drinking fluids. Guest guest
---Dorothy, There might be some benefit in sprinkling iodized sea salt on foods. Speaking for myself, I can't tolerate tap water either, but there are some bottled brands that fill up the void. :-) although I hadn't heard from you for quite some time I had no clue. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Salt is just one of those things that might induce thirst. I think the detox and herbal teas helped me the most with my fluid intake during my convalescense. Actually reflecting back, the teas were the only practical way I could get even close to the required six or eight glasses. Sometimes a little ice helps mask over the taste. After an op, I know that alfalfa tea made up into ice cubes accelerates the healing process, even green tea or black tea might help, if the herbal varieties aren't available. I send health and healing for a speedy recovery. :-) JoAnn In Gettingwell, " Dorothy " <dotcats@x> wrote: > Hi All, > i have just come out of hospital after having a cancerous kidney removed and > am having trouble drinking fluids. Guest guest
Dear Dorothy; Eat your vegetables as soup and add extra water. Also drinking water with one third fruit juice might help. If the remaining kidney is healthy you should be able to lead a reasonably normal life because usually we have more capacity than we need to just get by. Guest guest
If you are looking for alternative ideas, check through the groups you will find a lot there - I know because I belong to some of them. Dorothy, I do hope you are taking Flaxseed oil and cottage cheese (the Budwig Diet) to help you recover and hopefully keep further tumours at bay. Have you tried to drink herbal teas, they are an excellent way of getting your water and you can drink them hot or cold. Cancer is a personal issue for me - from reading the med journals and what scientists are learning NOW - cancer loves sugar and juices are loaded with sugar. Your cravings may be induced by the drugs you are taking, you may be going through withdrawal of what is showing to be an addictive chemical (sugar) but regardless, it sounds like mother nature is still after you to get you out of the gene pool. Your cancer wants to be fed. Don't feed it - you only have one kidney left. Take your castor oil - ie. water - whether it tastes good or not. - isoptera.geo Gettingwell Tuesday, September 10, 2002 9:37 PM Re: Kidney and fluids Dear Dorothy; Eat your vegetables as soup and add extra water.
