Guest guest
~~~ holistichell, you're so right when you say that the likes of St. John's wort, Kava, Kava etc. is just masking the symptom and not getting to the cause. If panic attacks are un-resolved fear, then surely all fears n' phobia's are a result of trauma ? i.e. a scarring of the psyche and ..... the *only way to deal with that is to attend to the headbox itself - the seat of all suffering !. I believe you are doing the 100% correct thing with cognitive therapy, as the mind can make us ill, so the mind can make us well again ..... a thought is energy, and we are all essentially energy so, incorrect thoughts over a period of time can ..... make us ill - including getting cancer. We have the means of Gettingwell inside us called the auto-immune system which is weakened by ..... stress (trauma) and ...... incorrect diet ! Wishing you well - Ray. P.S. have you considered meditation ?

Guest guest
if she doesn't want to help herself then all the meds. n' supps. n' therapists in the world won't be able to help her - as you know, if I remember correctly, her probs. started when she was deserted by her man - trauma/stress/ scarred psyche/ unresolved fear - it's all in the headbox again, it's almost as if she needs her pain to offset the *real* pain which only one person can alleviate ...... nuf sed. Guest guest
Thanks for your input Frank - until the agoraphobia struck some 2 1/2 years ago, she was not on any meds at all. She is now on a mild med (don't know the name) for the panic attacks but does not suffer from depression at all. Her son left home a couple of months ago and she reverted back to worse than she was when it was first diagnosed. I had got her to go out once a week to her mothers. She would only get into a car with my husband or I driving and on a couple of rare ocassions, she actually drove there and back herself - the second time there was a little traffic jam and she couldn't cope. I have given her a list of supplements that would help her, I have offered to take her to her mothers when she is ready - she really does not want to go out and to be honest she is doing nothing to help herself - I have sent her at least 2 different forums where she could chat with other people in the same position and she will not contact any of them. I hardly get any emails from her now, she just wants total seclusion. The only time I get mail from her in the last 3 weeks is to ask me to get something at the shop for her. I will send her the web site but I don't hold out any hope that she will even look at it. marianne > Agoraphobia is common when taking psychotropic medications, > especially if they have reached tolerance or are coming off of them. > You may want to ask your friend, what medicines she has been taking > at any time during the last year. > > This condition usually has a biochemical basis, because of low levels > of some needed nutients, it usually responds with nutrition. Guest guest
It was work that seemed to start the problems, they kept moving everyone into different teams and into different areas, you know what these big public companies are like, and she just got to the point where she didn't know if she would be in the same department the next day when she went into work - and eventually she flipped, at work, and her colleague had to drive her home - that was the last time she worked. It was her son leaving that sent her backwards again - she does not cope well with anything that is beyond her control, whilst she is in control of something it is fine. However, her man did leave her a few years earlier and it could well be that which started it all. I just don't understand how she would rather be in the house, doing absolutely nothing, on her own and pennyless - I must be missing something here I think. marianne > if she doesn't want to help herself then all the meds. n' supps. n' > therapists in the world won't be able to help her - as you know, if I > remember correctly, her probs. started when she was deserted by her man - > trauma/stress/ scarred psyche/ unresolved fear - it's all in the headbox > again, it's almost as if she needs her pain to offset the *real* pain which > only one person can alleviate ...... nuf sed. >
Guest guest
Dear Marianne, Agoraphobia is common when taking psychotropic medications, especially if they have reached tolerance or are coming off of them. You may want to ask your friend, what medicines she has been taking at any time during the last year. This condition usually has a biochemical basis, because of low levels of some needed nutients, it usually responds with nutrition. Niacin is one nutrient used. There are others. The prescribed pharmacuetical meds like benzodiazapines, antidepressants, and the major tranquilizers as well as others, mask the problem, but cause much more imbalance in the long run. If she has been taking any of these type meds, it us such a severe maladjustment to the brain, that it takes, usually a year to a year and a half to right the brain chemically and readjust to normal. There are many sites covering this condition. A very good place to start is at: http://doctoryourself.com You can also do a search on the damage caused by these meds mentioned above. Let me know if you need further information.
