Guest guest
Evening Vache, >magnesium I even need to feed the horses. *sigh* If it matters to >you, figure each animal weighing 700-1,000 pounds. Right now I am >crushing up mag. oxide tablets, but this is a ridiculous & expensive >way to do it. >Suggestions, hints? Please. I think you need a magnesium mine. How many horses? I would guess that you need 5000 to 6000 mg total. Actually, I can't make a suggestion as I have studied that field very little. I was wondering if there was a Vet list available. I suppose you are trying to balance all the minerals. But, if you can't come up with a good source for any one of the nutrients, I don't see how you could balance all of the minerals. Now.... I have a question for you. How many ounces of flax seed would you feed a chicken per day? I suppose we could weigh the chickens and then use the human formula to come close until we find better answers. By the way, we have a state college that teaches this kind of thing. Maybe I can get the name of someone in research there and give him a call. If I make the connection, let me know any specific questions and I will try to get answers. Guest guest
Thanks for the input Wayne. Are you going to grind the flax before feeding it to the chickens? I feed the horses about a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of freshly ground flax each a day, depending how shiny slick their coats look. Sometimes they are so bright with shine one needs sun glasses. *grin* So what then, about a teaspoon of seed for chickens (before ground) should do it??? I feed my little 11 pound dog about a tablespoon of freshly ground flax daily. I just need to know if I need to adjust the magnesium for I will be using citrate instead of oxide. One more place to look to buy oxide at... Ya'll might looking through that herbalcom.com site I mentioned before too. Thanks, Vache
Guest guest
Vitaroyal.com is a site that may be of great interest to many on this List. They have areas for people & animals. I finally thought to go there, remembering that they would probably have magnesium oxide. Yes, they do! Food grade chelated at $0.35 a pound! (Hmm, now I wonder what shipping will run me.) Plus from the site I was able to better get a grip on how much to actually suppliment the horses with. Wayne, why do you want to feed the chickens flax? Are they caged? Do they get to free feed outside on bugs & grasses at all? LOL, & for some reason I thought you lived in a city. What is your worming protocol for them?
