Guest guest
Evening Alobar, >>a toxin called thio-cyanate-a cyanide-like compound. This toxin can be found >in the blood after eating raw flaxseed. Cooking neutralizes this compound, >making it harmless Can this possibly mean that everyone has been wrong that recommended eating raw flax seed? I think not. New research comes up from time to time that may prove we have been doing something wrong that we thought was right. I have been eating raw flax seed for several months. Next week I have an appointment for a number of blood test. The main thing I am interested in is the fatty acid profile. Hopefully this will tell me if the flax oil, flax seed, salmon oil, coconut oil, borage oil, and raw flax seed has done any good or harm. I can talk to the lab technician to see if this bad news on flax seed could be tested. Finally.... I have been able to bypass the doctors office and deal directly with the lab for my test. I feel sure none of these are FDA or AMA approved test, as bypassing the doctors is not the way they want this done. After all, I am being a guinea pig so I might as well go to the animal research board for the tests. I will do more research on the item you found, thio-cyanate to see what I can find out. BTW, Wayne, any hints on how one can bypass doctors to get blood testing done directly? And (if you do not mind me asking) what does a blood test cost? Guest guest
Any intelligent and serious argument, takes time and effort to work out, organize and deliver; and, as such, deserves our respect and attention. The arguments we've seeing cautioning us about the use of flax oil, and even fresh flax meal, point up the critical importance of on-going, unbiased, well designed research of all the variables affecting health, beneficially or harmfully, in the use of flax oil/seed, particularly in high doses and amounts. Most important of all, we consumers have nothing to gain by having " faith " in any substance, or method in alternative or conventional medicine, except in those cases where we have a thorough understanding of the real-world consequences of those uses. I'll continue my program of flax use. I'm using 2 tbs flax meal daily; made on the spot, and consumed quickly. In case there's anything to the claim that the thio-cyanate content of flax seed, poses a problem for the body, but that cooking the meal, including it in salads, soups, breads, etc., continues to give us health benefits, I'll be cooking it some of the time. - " Alobar " <alobar Wednesday, June 12, 2002 4:20 PM Re: Flax seed question, ( thio-cynate ) > > - > " Wayne Fugitt " <wayne > > Wednesday, June 12, 2002 6:14 PM > Flax seed question, ( thio-cynate ) > > > > Evening Alobar, > > > > >>a toxin called thio-cyanate-a cyanide-like compound.
