Yes - I have taken valerian to help me sleep at times - it is very good

because it does not leave you feeling 'doped' the next morning. I am just

about to grow 1 type (valerian minore) for myself to see how it goes and if I

can make a near drinkable tea for myself.

Hi, Marianne

Thanks for the response. That's exactly why I am interested in it. Does it

give you a restful sleep? I am not in a position to start to garden. Have you

ever bought any in a store, health or otherwise? Is it in capsules, dry

pills....? You make a tea out of it - do you get the root (if it is actually a

root) and brew it? I really do not want to go into prescription poisons!

I have only ever taken what I can buy in a store Morton, I have only just

found the seeds to grow my own and have no idea if I will ever use it, the

flowers are very pretty to look at though (LOL).

You can get several different variations here in the UK, I have one lot that

are capsules and called Valerian Root, then another which is hard pill and

contains a couple of other natural ingredients, valerian extract, hop extract

& lemon balm extract (I find these the best ones) and are called Valerina.

If you buy the capsules, you can make a tea out of them if that is what you

prefer.

They do give a restful sleep and you don't wake up in a fog as you would if

you went for precribed sleeping pills.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. Maybe the pleasing look of the flower in itself can have therapeutic

value. I will look into it.
