Guest guest
Evening Morton, >They studied more than 4,500 teen-agers, with an average age of about >15, from 31 middle schools and high schools in Minnesota. Of them, about >262, or nearly 6 percent, said they were vegetarian. I found this interesting. I am highly surprised that they found that many teenagers that could even spell vegetarian. Most of the adults I know who claim to be vegetarians don't really understand nutrition and body chemistry. A teenager has not been alive long enough to master the methods and discipline to be a good vegetarian. Still, maybe the study was on the level. If I could get enough fresh and high quality foods, I would be a 99% vegetarian. >They include goals of getting less than 30 percent of one's daily >calories from fat and less than 10 percent from saturated fat, eating >more than two servings of fruit and three servings of vegetables daily. I still think 40% is a better number for fats. Everyone keeps damming fats. Nature never made a bad fat, only man has made bad fats. Some doctor-scientist state that carbohydrates are not even a required nutrient. >>both the vegetarians and the meat-eaters failed to get enough calcium >every day, the researchers found, but the vegetarians got significantly >more iron, vitamin A, folate and fiber. Nothing was said about essential fatty acids. If these are not supplied in the proper amounts, none of these teenagers will make it to age 50 disease free. >They also drank more diet soda and caffeine, which the researchers said >reflected the desire of most of the teen-agers to keep weight off. So.... the truth leaks out. None of the teenagers know of the dangers of the diet drinks and caffeine. > " Vegetarian adolescents, similar to their adult counterparts, have >dietary patterns that, if maintained, could significantly lower their >risk of the leading causes of death as adults, " the researchers said. It appears the study wants patients who do not die for a number of years so that each one can be milked by the medics for 250,000 to 500,000 dollars each. Believe me, I have a number of friends that have spent that much and they are still sick. My ideas differ from the mainstream and I doubt everything. <grin> By the way, you mentioned an interest in my growing methods. I have a number of pictures to put on the website. Will post a link soon. Have a great week. Wayne
Guest guest
I am really into eating well--both my hubby and I have adopted the McDougall Program that was out numerous years ago---we sure are feelin' better---we're not " full swing " into it--can't seem to let go of my pepsi---but workin' towards it---it's a wonderful program--you can find his books---he has several in your libraries or on half.com TheoIn Gettingwell, Wayne Fugitt <wayne@f...> wrote: > Evening Morton, > > > >They studied more than 4,500 teen-agers, with an average age of about > >15, from 31 middle schools and high schools in Minnesota.
