I am so pleased with the results I got at the CHD clinic today.

I have been off the 'statins' for approx 4 months now (my cholesterol was

10.4, I have never been given the breakdown of LDL & HDL and when I asked

today, she showed me the report which did not contain this information) -

Around the same time my bp was 170/100 and I have reduced the meds for this

by at least half.

Today my cholesterol was 8.3 and my bp was 160/82 - this is all down to diet

and supplements so I am very pleased with these results. I have to go back

in August for another cholesterol test (this time I will make sure that it is

a fasting test) and know that the results will show it down even more.

It just goes to show that we can do it without massive amounts of meds as

most dr's insist. Another couple of adjustments and I think I will be there.

Not bad for a chocoholic who is trying very hard to not eat any more

chocholate.

So all of you keep striving to lower your cholesterol or bp or get off any

other meds, it can be done, it may be a long road but you will get to the end

and feel so much better for it. I know that I still have a way to go before

I am 'helthy' but I also know that I can get there.

Well done! I am interested to know how you have changed your diet and

what supplements you have been using. I too need to help my

cholesterol level decrease.. Sue

Hi Sue, I have been taking a lot of supplements because I take for all my

health issues. I have stopped using trans fats and only use organic butter

or olive oil now. I was paying a mighty sum for 'special' margarines &

butters that are supposed to lower your cholesterol and then found out that

they are so very bad for you, I would never use them again (benecol and the

like).

I take, calcium with a & d, magnesium, vit e, blackstrap molasses, CoQ10,

garlic, fish oils (omega 3 & 6) and EPO as well as heartdrops.

Diet is of course the most important, cut out trans fats and reduce the

amount of red meat that eat. I also think that JoAnn has it right in saying

eat as much as you can that is organic. We are now 99.5% organic and I know

that is helping because we are not getting all those nasty growth hormones

and pesticides etc in our food.

Good luck you know you can do it naturally.

Hi thanks for the info. I have introduced the garlic and fish oils

into my diet already. I found a diet on the net called 'the cabbage

soup diet'. I think I will start on that as the soup is one I

remember from a cardiac diet. I have been on it once before and

managed to lose quite a bit of weight, but it looks healthy enough to

get me started into lowering the cholesterol as well. I agree with

you about the organic foods.

Sue, please be very careful on this cabbage soup diet, it does not contain

all the essential nutrients that you need to sustain a healthy lifestyle.

The premise that it is a cardiac diet is absolute rubbish. If you have the

soup for lunch that is fine, or you could try a few others, JoAnn has a

lovely onion soup recipe and I will post a recipe for Fennel & Celery soup

later (gotta adapt to US as well) which I know is really tasty - both very

good lowering your cholesterol. Eat healthy breakfast and dinner and just

have the soup for lunch though, you need to stay healthy to be able to

continue the natural way of health.

Hi Bonny, I only have a very little butter, no mayonnaise as I don't eat it

anyway but I do have eggs because they contain GOOD cholesterol that we need.

I now only use olive oil for everything that I cook.

Going without it the worst thing that you can do, your body will think it is

being starved and store all food as fat (from my friend Robin). It is not a

good diet to go on unless as I said, you have the soup for lunch, then that

and the recipe that I sent would be good alternate lunches to have.

Have you any idea of the essential nutrients your body can lose each and

every day - because that is what will happen with the cabbage soup diet if

that is all that you eat. I really do think you should consult a doctor

(preferably one who is sympathetic to natural healing) and see if this would

be harmful to you (sometimes we do need those doctors unfortunately).

I would hate for you to cause further problems by doing the wrong thing, I

have your welfare at heart here. If you want a healthier diet, you should

eat as much or more but better foods - i.e. 10 portions of fruit and veg (raw

is best) and really good foods, that will do you far more good than cabbage

soup diet (have you thought that you will not want people in the same room as

you after day 1, cabbage can do terrible things to you!!LOL)

My main aim is to look at eating healthier and a little less than

usual, and the soup diet was just one way to make a start at getting

used to 'going without'. I have never been good at diets because I

always change them to suit myself. I will be careful though. The

What I like about the cabbage soup-diet idea is, that it can help satisfy

your appetite with a food that is mostly water. But it's worse than

useless, if you don't, " first, " eat ample quantities of low-calorie, highly

nutritious, raw plant foods, that provide the essential nutrients for good

health.

I remember Adelle Davis's ideas, when I first became interested in improving

my health. She told her readers to consume so much good food, that you

didn't have much of an appetite left for the junk.

What a very wise lady she was then. I just know that there have been cases

of people becoming sick because they have followed that cabbage soup diet, I

would not feel right if I didn't point out the pitfalls of relying on this

soup for one's nutritional wellbeing.
