Guest guest
-Alternative Medicine magazine, April issue -Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, April issue " HIV and AIDS: Myths vs. medicine " http://www.alternativemedicine.com/AMHome.asp If you above, it will take you to the online version of the full investigative piece written for the April issue by the publisher of Alternative Medicine magazine, Burton Goldberg. One of the largest Alternative Medicine magazines, available at Wild Oats, Vitamin Cottage, Wal Mart, and many local supermarkets. Upon calling the editor thanking her for the coverage, or uncoverage, as the case may be, I was asked to write a letter to the editor. http://www.alternativemedicine.com/ == [selection] " While Western medicine has spent $50 billion in research futilely focusing on a virus that by itself does not cause the disease, alternative physicians have quietly made tremendous progress in treating AIDS. A little more than two years ago, the leader of an African nation was universally attacked in the world press for being an " enemy of the people, " espousing a policy of " genocide " and letting " babies die in pain. " Was this a monster supporting terrorists, experimenting with weapons of mass destruction or waging war on minorities in his country? No, it was Thabo Mbeki, president of South Africa. His " crime " was suggesting that his country review the safety of AIDS drugs. Then, adding fuel to the controversy, in March 2000, President Mbeki invited about 30 HIV-AIDS researchers to his presidential AIDS panel in Pretoria, including two American biochemists, Peter Duesberg and David Rasnick. These two Ph.D.s from the University of California at Berkeley are vocal dissidents of conventional thinking about HIV and AIDS. It is obvious that Mbeki is no monster, but is he misinformed and misguided to question the safety of AIDS drugs and the absolute equation HIV = AIDS? " -- Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients http://www.tldp.com/ The April issue of Townsend Letter has come out - The entire issue is devoted to HIV and Nutrients - There's an article by Christine Johnson about why HIV tests don't work, especially in Africa, and also a letter by Felix A. de Fries of Zurich, who also questions HIV as the cause of AIDS and offers nutritional suggestions for health problems attributed to HIV and AIDS. Andrew Weil, MD., the PBS guru and author, adds an article that explains why treating immune diseases with Alternative Medicine is better than the chemo-cocktail therapies. Weil founded the National Integrative Medicine Council (NIMC), a membership-based education and advocacy organization that leverages consumer demand for integrative care into increased awareness and legislative action. According to the Council's Executive Director, Weil is a friend of Kary Mullis, AIDS Dissident Scientist and Nobel Laureate. Dr. Weil's definition of Integrative Medicine: a.. A partnership must exist between patient and practitioner that addresses healing on all levels-especially lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, stress, quality of sleep and rest, relationships, and work, as well as the appropriate use of dietary supplements, herbs, and other natural remedies. a.. Appropriate use of conventional and alternative methods is often the best way to facilitate the body's innate healing response. a.. A view of the patient as a whole person requires consideration of all factors that influence health, wellness and disease, including mind, spirit and community as well as body. a.. Doctors and patients should neither reject conventional medicine nor embrace alternative medicine uncritically. a.. Good medicine should be grounded in good science and be open to new paradigms. a.. It is better to use natural, inexpensive, low-tech and less invasive interventions whenever possible. a.. Medicine must focus on promoting health and preventing illness as well as treating disease. == Check out the April issue of Townsend Letter, and if you have time, write a letter to the editor to let them know you'd like to read more dissenting viewpoints on AIDS. I'm hoping that the regular readers of this magazine will put two and two together and realize that nutrition is vital to health, and that deficiencies of nutrients and exposure to toxins are co-causes in most of the AIDS-defining illnesses as they are in most illness in general... -- ACCESS TO INFORMATION, FULLY INFORMED CONSENT- Informed Consent, including access to a growing body of research presented by hundreds of Dissident Scientists, including Nobel Laureates, Members of the National Academy of Sciences, and Pioneers in their fields, calling into question the dominant, conventional pharmaceutically based medical model for the alleged viral pathogenesis and progression of 'HIV=AIDS.' Pre- and Post Test Counseling, Case Management, Community Educational and Outreach programs, Support groups, etc. should regularly provide the other side of the story to fully inform consent. Consumers deserve to know that the conventional medical or scientific mismanagement of health epidemics later determined to be misdiagnosed endemics, requires that the consumer be empowered in their health-care decision-making, to determine for themselves what is valid based on all available information. Many AIDS Organizations do not provide access to this information, prevent consumers from forming support groups to explore such alternative and uncomplementary paradigms and protocols. This is morally unacceptable for organizations receiving federal and foundational support to claim to be serving all those affected, regardless of their health care philosophy and practise. Non-Dissident AIDS Activists who respect consumer rights, should speak out on this. FREEDOM OF SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY- Supporting a Free Exploration and Exchange in the publicly funded and community research initiatives inclusive of Dissident Scientific and Alternative Health. NCCAM, within the NIH, should fund this research they were designed to, but infact are not. The director is an MD and their National Advisory board, half of which have to be Alternative-- have confirmed they are forced to accept an extrapolated drug model thereby ineffectualizing most NCCAM research. Further, the NIH and NIAID should appoint a director who will support a free exchange and exploration of all valid medical and scientific approaches, including AIDS Dissident Scientific-- with at least 1% of the AIDS Research budget. Non-Dissident AIDS Activists, who although may disagree with Dissident Scientists, but who, nevertheless, allow room for the possibility of being wrong with the intent to support a free exchange and exploration of all valid medical and scientific approach-- should press for this accomodation. ACCESS TO CARE- AIDS Alternative Health Care Freedom for Alternative Medicine Physicians in terms of licensure laws, standard of care legal risks in the practise of medicine, and Empowered Access to Alternative Medicine's Modes and Models of Care for Consumers who choose these, respecting and reflecting the diversity of health care philosophy and practise of all those 'HIV' affected. At least 1% of the AIDS Health Services budget should be redirected to support a multifactorial approach to immune sufficiency and sustainability. To start, models of regional research clinics could be very cost effective. Acupuncture and chiropractic, while part of a comprehensive model are not necessarily qualified as primary Alternative Health Care Physicians. Naturopathic Physicians, who have four years of training beyond the BA at one of the four major Naturopathic Schools are qualified for primary care. Alternative Therapies are often disconnected from Alternative Theories, in how Alternative Medicine authentically diagnosis illness-- treating underlying symptoms, not syndromes. They historically and generally do not recognize conventional disease classifications.
