Radical plans to allow pharmacists to stand in for GPs by writing

prescriptions have been announced by the Government.

 

The move could see pharmacists writing prescriptions for treatments such

as asthma inhalers, hormone replacement therapy and pills for high blood

pressure.

 

If the change is approved it will mean after diagnosis patients may no

longer need to revisit their doctors for follow-up prescriptions.
