Solid research studies have shown links between MSG and Aspartame, with ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Brain tumors, Depression, and even rage disorder and paranoia. In light of the increasing violence in schools, including mass murders, like those at Columbine, why doesn't the FDA take immediate action and look ONLY at research that is NOT biased due to funding by the Glutamate industry? Food and Beverages that contain Aspartame by Julie K. Diaz This article provides a list of foods and beverages that typically contain Aspartame, or Nutrasweet (Equal). Research also indicates that aspartame, when combined with glutamine products (such as MSG, widely used in foods) increase the likelihood of brain damage occurring in children. http://www.mercola.com Aspartame - avoid it - Dangerous symptoms A double blind study of the effects of aspartame on persons with mood disorders was recently conducted by Dr Ralph G. Walton. The study showed a large increase in serious symptoms for persons taking aspartame. Since some of the symptoms were so serious, the Institutional Review Board had to stop the study. http://www.mercola.com METHANOL - AKA WOOD ALCOHOL or POISON - 10% OF Methanol/wood alcohol is a deadly poison. Some people may remember methanol as the poison that has caused some " skid row " alcoholics to end up blind or dead. Guest guest
A lot of what I have read about vaccines, is that the mercury used as a preservative in a lot of them can be toxic and can cause permanent damge. It is quite probable that they could use something else. Probably a matter of their own economics, like american style dentistry. Otherwise I'm not that knowledgeable about them. As for the aspertame ditto as to my knowledge. I do believe there have been a few studies showing toxicity also. I certainly don't think they are putting it in our foods for my interests but theirs. If anyone is going to look out for me, it will probably have to be me. I believe the manufacturers, FDA, Govt. Seems to have other interests. Frank Can anyone in the group share some real knowledge here about these two subjects?. Gettingwell, Morton Bodanis <mortonmb@c...> wrote: > And then again, maybe they are not. Guest guest
Aspartame a most heavily researched product. There are researchers who have their own agendas and follow dubious techniques. Anyone can be allergic to anything. If someone is uncomfortable eating something, don't eat it any more. My friend gets horrible headaches if he ingests monosodium glutamate, a food flavour enhancer which has been use by Orientals since forever, but has no adverse effect upon me or countless others. If you want to find out more about aspartame, put the word into your browser window and use your analytical abilities to separate the wheat from the chaff. I use a better search engine that my browser. It is downloadable at <www.copernic.com> The basic engine, which will suit most of us, is free. This metasearch engine searches many search engines at the same time with no loss of time. There are other similar ones, but I like this one. Guest guest
Dear Morton, Yes, you are right when you say that all research is not valid. The problem arises when research is done to further a stated end result and people should be aware of this. Most research done today is paid for by the companies that have a product to sell.So any person relying on the weight or amount of research done on any subject can be misled. I think this applies to almost the highest levels of research today. This holds true for the internet as well. In fact, very little indepth research is given on the internet. But because it is a good, open, vehicle for economic promotion, most of it is slanted to sell rather than inform. I am not saying that should be changed, I'm only stating that people should be aware of this when trying to find out the truth as it affects theirselves. As for MSG having no effect. What we usually mean is " that we know of " sometimes the damage is subclinical or not directly noticed or attributed to the causitive factor. A lot of times, toxic substances don't show an immediate effect. ie. " I ate something an hour ago and I'm now sick. " Depends on a lot of things (amount etc.) They damage over time and by the time the symptoms are in full bloom, major damage can occur. Sometimes irreversably so.. The toxicity of chemicals , metals, etc. present many variables. How much over what period of time, has fast or efficient your body can rid itself of them, what combinations are formed within the body with other toxic substances.etc. It is not such a simple matter as I ate it and it didn't make me immediately sick. If that we're a good criteria we wouldn't need any research whatsoever.( Hold it while I get another cigerette, the last one didn't make me sick so it must be alright for me.) Of course basic research is limited in evaluating most of these areas for the individual person. There fore I think we should play it as safe as we can in trying to limit the toxic substances when we are aware of them and can do so. This is for us to decide on our own individual basis. Guest guest
Hi, Frank Well, we seem to be in agreement, sort of. Yes, most research is paid for by those who will have a vested interest in the research results, else, one would not have an interest in performing the research. But this in itself does not invalidate the research. As for monosodium glutamate, it is derived from a protein occuring naturally in nature. Monosodium glutamate (MSG) has been extracted and used for many years in home and restaurant foods, and in processed foods. People sensitive to MSG may have mild and transitory reactions when they eat foods that contain large amounts of MSG (such as would be found in heavily flavor-enhanced foods). Because MSG is commonly used in Chinese cuisine, these reactions were initially referred to as " Chinese restaurant syndrome. " FDA believes that MSG is a safe food ingredient for the general population. It is regarded by the agency as among food ingredients that are " generally recognized as safe. " FDA has studied adverse reaction reports and other data concerning MSG's safety. The agency also has an ongoing contract with the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology to re- examine the scientific data on possible adverse reactions to glutamate in general. MSG must be declared on the label of any food to which it is added. To label MSG as being toxic is wrong - it is not a toxic substance. Generally, it is the dose which makes the poison; water is a necessity of life, but if you were to drink too much, you would actually drown your body's cells and die. To label peanuts as toxic would be more correct as to one allergic to them, the slightest amount will be toxic, quickly. But should we be cautious and avoid them? We could create a long list of foods to avoid for possible effects of which we are not yet aware. To avoid MSG, derived from a common nutrient, because it may be harmful " subclinically " is a long reach. But if it makes you feel more secure to avoid it, do what you think is good for you.
