Dan Jaffe of the University of Washington-Bothell says the dust will reach US shores in one to two weeks. The university has a monitoring station on the Olympic Peninsula and will take samples using small aeroplanes. Prof Jaffe says the dust is unlikely create an air quality problem in itself but will add to existing pollution.
