The supplements occur in tablet form, which is uncontrollable dispersion. A coated tablet takes nearly four hours to dissolve up to its maximum dissolution rate in the human body. Only then is the body able to absorb approximately 38% of the total tablet composition since the chemical concentration is dissolved slowly in the stomach tract and only 38% of the tablet enters the small intestine in an isotonic (dissolved and absorbable) state. This means that you are only getting 38$ of the available ingredients of nutrients on the printed label of the supplement container. (300 mgs of vit. C on the label yields 114 mgs to your body). The advertised purity of vitamin content is not relevant since the absorption rate is so low. Test: dark colored urine. Good: Metabolic Profiling (coated tablet form) MP is a conceptually sound principle since the basic premise is that each individual's unique metabolic rate must be considered in order to establish the most accurate combination of supplement requirements (proteins, carbs and fats). The downside is that the supplements occur in tablet form, which is still uncontrollable dispersion in the stomach. A coated pill takes up to four hours to fully dissolve in the stomach of the human body and only then is the body able to absorb approximately 38 – 40% of the total pill composition. Of the 38 – 40%, the metabolic profiling ensures that you achieve the maximum absorption from the available absorbable nutrients. You will get the full 40$ of the benefit of the tablets. Test: light colored urine. Better: Time Released (coated tablet form) or Capsule The improved gradual dispersion of the supplements – even though they are in tablet or capsule form offer the body gradual, steady absorption. Time released tablets enable the body to capture approximately 56% (coated pill) up to 65% (capsule) of the total chemical composition over a 24-hour release period. The problem there is that each body eliminates differently. If one eliminates 1 time a day, the 24-hour release period is viable. If one eliminates 2 times a day the viability is cut in half because the time-released agent is only staying in the body ½ the time; and so on if one eliminates 3 or 4 times a day. Absorption level is further impeded since the pill form is .not evenly dissolved or dispersed to the small intestine. Test: light colored urine Best: Isotonic (Powder to Liquid) The isotonic state is the most basic reduction liquid) form that all foods must break down to in order to enter the lower intestine and be absorbed by the body. Once in this from there is immediate dispersion of the nutritional composition. Supplements in this form offer the body the most available, overall value and absorption since the body is able to capture 94% of the total composition within a 12- minute period. The body will throw off any excess as waste, which in the case of liquid is extremely slight (6%). Example: 300 mg of Vitamin C will yield 282 mgs of vitamin C in your system (compared with coated capsule of the same 300 mgs that yields 114 mgs). Test: mostly clear urine. Summary: Nutrients cannot be used by the body until they exist in their most basic isotonic state. Vitamin/Mineral absorption varies according to the degree of nutrient concentration in the lower (small) intestine. Whenever possible take supplements in isotonic form. Isotonics work best alone without food or other concurrent supplements. As with all new intakes there is an early, high concentration (load-in) period to acclimate the body to a new substance. --- End forwarded message ---

Guest guest
I have my doubts about quoting such precise absorption figures (i.e., 94%). Absorption is also related to factors such as absorptive capacity of small intestine, whether the supplement is taken with food, whether minerals are chelated.... The usefulness of capsules and tablets may not be as bad as suggested. Mixed with stomach acids, the nutrients are liberated in the chime, which advances to the small intestine for absorption. Guest guest
--- Marianne, Powders, tinctures and extracts are absorbed better. depends on whether they have an alcohol or water base. As you might know, there is a world of difference in various extracts and tinctures. I assume you are referring to Dr. Schulze tinctures? Perhaps Donna will address that. She has some experience with his products I believe.
