At least from all of this some parents will take soy away from their kids and , will themselves, eat only fermented varieties of soy. It is only by spirited back- & -forth dialog backed by presentation of various research papers that we can begin to grasp the complexity of each issue regards health & diet. The issue I was raising has little to do with the merits or dangers of eating soy -- that is for each of us to decide for him or her self based upon the discussion presented here. What I was attempting to address is how a person (Greg) asserting an unpopular belief (soy is beneficial) was treated by another person (Elaine) on this list. Political correctness is (IMO) the enemy of all of us. Once we (as a group) become entrenched in a particular belief modality, it becomes very difficult to examine ideas which are " known " to be correct, or ideas which are " known " to be false. Political correctness is the enemy of truth. When I see ideas presented here which I feel to be false or dangerous, I have the right to comment ( & do so). I respect Elaine's diligent work presenting research papers which backed up her opinions about soy being dangerous. Very good to hear different perspectives on any issue. What I spoke out against was character asassination. I do not think character assassination has a valid place in discussions on any topic. Elaine was trying to smear Greg's character -- plain & simple. Your mincing words by saying " Maybe Elaine did get a little carried away " seems to be trying to exonerate her over-the-top statements. I would rather say it plain. Elaine did get carried away. Not " maybe " and not " a little " . I do not think Greg is afraid to speak his mind in the face of adverse reactions, but what of others? If rebuttal of ideas on this includes character assassination, are others going to be afraid to speak up? If so, we are all losers. No telling who has an interesting thought or belief about health or nutrition which could help a lot of different people if shared. Guest guest
Alobar, I just wanted to say I like your attitude! It saddens me sometimes, the anger on this list. We are all here for the same reasons, to learn about our health and ways to get healthier. We can't all think the same, and what a terribly boring world if we all did! But it is nice to have a risk-free forum to voice our opinions, ask our questions, and revise our thinking and come to a higher level of knowledge. Thanks so much for your eloquence! Hi Ron, Which is what I have suggested all the time. Smart eating is about understanding what the foods you are eating are doing to you inside and eating to maximalise benefits while minimizing negatives. Also eat iodine rich sea fish (salmon, tuna, mackerel, etc) for the iodine and Omega 3s. Just like the Okinawans. ======================== Good health & long life, Greg Watson, http://optimalhealth.cia.com.au
