Guest guest
EECP is a bizarre electro-mechanical therapy, principally, for angina pectoris. It's been around for about 10 years now. Large cuffs are velcroed and strapped around the legs, as well as the thighs, and finally the abdominal area. In a split-second sequence, these cuffs deliver tremendous pressure to their respective areas, beginning with the cuffs around the lower legs, followed by thighs, finally abdomen. This sequence occurs during diastole, when the heart is in a split-second state of relative rest. This is the instant during which the heart receives its own blood supply. Since the cuffs are forcing blood upward through the body, the hope is, that the heart will receive an enriched supply, and that this will encourage the formation of collateral circulation, to the blood/oxygen starved heart and its narrowed arteries. I received over 50 such treatments, at a cost of over $5000, unfortunately, with no " apparent " effect on my angina problem. When you're first strapped to this astonishing cot (and its accompanying electrical and mechanical machinery), and the unit is turned on, you don't believe you can endure it. The machine jolts you with such force, you feel like you're being thrown by a wild horse, and if the cuffs weren't so tight around your lower body, you'd fly out of the room! I suspect it has value, mostly, for people whose cardio problems are of modest seriousness to begin with. - <dfnewman Monday, February 18, 2002 5:50 AM Re: Information on EECP > Can you tell me what this is?? > thanks > Donna > In a message dated 2/18/02 5:07:00 AM, natural_bypass writes: > > << I recently started a group/forum focused strictly on EECP.
