RITALIN – Hydrochloride !!

 

It is a stimulant to the Central Nervous System. The mode of

action in man is NOT Completely Understood (Man plays god too

much??), but Ritalin PRESUMABLY activates the Brain stem arousal

system and cortex to produce its stimulant effect.

 

WARNINGS!!

 

RITALIN should NOT be used in children under six years, since

safety and efficacy in this age group have NOT been established.

Sufficient data on safety and efficacy of Long-Term use of

Ritalin in children are NOT yet available.

 

ADVERSE REACTIONS!!

 

Nervousness and Insomnia are the most common adverse reactions

but are usually controlled by reducing dosage and omitting the

drug in the afternoon or evening. Other reactions include

Hypersensitivity (including skin rash, urticaria, fever,

arthralgia, exfoliative dermatitis, erythema, etc. etc. etc.

etc.)

 

In children, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, weight loss during

prolonged therapy, insomnia, and tachycardia may occur more

frequently; however, any of the other adverse reactions listed

above may also occur.

Good afternoon to all!!

I am responding to the post here about ritalin and what it is doing to

our children. I too at one time thought how wrong it was to given a child

such drug. Well,... I now work at a school for troubled children. The

" troubles " range from conduct disordered children to organically mentally ill

children. I have to say in defense of the drug... I have seen children that

were not learning... NOT because they didn't want to... But they couldn't due

to hyper activity....... many are very distraught children coming from

dysfunctional homes. Their hyper activity is a learned response from several

abuses than have went on in their lives ... some are just having a chemical

imbalance ... WHATEVER the reason. I have seen miracles taken place when

these children have been given this drug. I have literally seen children that

couldn't sit still ... bouncing off the walls ... come down after 15 minutes

of ingesting this drug, sit in there seats and LEARN!!!!! I know if given

the option of to take this drug or to have some other way of dealing with

this behavior. Well, please enlighten the powers that be. For nothing has

helped these children as this has.

Hello Debbie,

 

I can agree it may have worked for many and I can also say that my stepbrother

never got better just worse. He was on Ritalin all of his child hood, I seen a

child that was maybe not doing the things that teachers and parents hated, but I

also seen a child that was not being himself. When he hit the teenager stage he

then started getting even worse, even selling the Ritalin. I am sad to say that

he is now in Jail. Good experience makes you feel the way you do, bad

experience from what I seen make’s me feel the way I do. When you look back in

History, think of some people that are famous today that should have been on

Ritalin???? I can think of many like my favorit actor Robin Williams. I don't

think that Ritalin should be the cure all choice for Add/Adhd. I laugh

expecially at those who give there child Ritalin and still don't do any changes

to there eating habits of those harmful foods that cause even more impalance in

the brian, diet should be the first alternative.
