Guest guest
I've had an ACME juicer for 30 years, and it's still my favorite. As I began to turn my diet around nearly a decade ago, I bought a juicer. For a while the concentrated liquid essences seemed to do me well. But as I have grown older, I have chronic constipation problems. I found that switching to a VitaMix has helped the constipation. Also, many of the juices can be a very high sugar load (like carrots). Vitamix smoothies are a lot less taxing on my pancreas. Guest guest
There are advantages to using a juicer over a blender, and visa versa, so you may need to decide what purpose you need to use it for. Juicers separate the juice from the plant fibers. Plant fibers can bind to and prevent absorption's of some of the nutrients from the plants, such as plant sterols. Plant sterols are good for modulating the immune system. So using a juicer and removing much of the fiber would increase the absorption of some of these less accessible nutrients. Blenders use whole foods, but have to have added water or juice in order to process the plant into a drinkable product, which means that some of the nutrients may be watered down, or you have to use already processed juice in order to create juice in a blender. In other words, I can make a cup of juice in my juicer with about 8 carrots. But to make the same quantity of juice in my Vita-Mix takes less carrots and needs added water, reducing the amount of potential nutrients. Or I can make carrot juice in my juicer, and then make whole carrot juice in my Vita-Mix, but then I have twice as much to clean up. If, however, you are trying to get more fiber into your diet, a blender is a good way to increase your diets fiber content. The advantage is that you will throw away less pulp/plant parts, and benefit from some of the nutrients that would normally be lost from juicing which are more directly attached to the plant fibers. For example, grape skins, which would normally be processed out of the juice in a juicer, but which contain pycnogenols. I use a combination of both a juicer and a Vita-Mix, but not together. Sometimes I make juice in my juicer to drink, and sometimes we make fruit smoothies in the Vita-Mix, or puree vegetables for soups. But I prefer the juicer for extracting juice because I'm trying to work on modulating my immune system and have adequate sources of fiber without depending on the Vita-Mix for juicing. Guest guest
Hi, As a general rule, I blend my fruits and juice my veggies. I use both! A fruit smoothie every morning and carrot juice with some kind of greens and often ginger during the day.
