Guest guest
this might be old news but its new to me. here is the url for a consumer lab for vitamins. there is a free section and a paid section. The free section has a write up on Fish Oil supplements which was interesting. Just thought I'd pass it on. Oh and if you already know about this and think this is not a reliable source of information please let me know why because I'm considering joining. thanks, joseph in NC http://www.consumerlab.com/index.asp
Guest guest
My only problem with " Consumerlabs, " is that they spend 95% of their efforts and resources on an issue of lesser importance. To me, the issue of first importance is whether, say, Ginkgo Biloba, has the effects on human health and illness, that are claimed for it, by people, companies, researchers promoting and supporting its use. I'm less concerned with whether the bottle the Ginkgo is sold in, that tells you it has 100mg per capsule, actually has 100mg in each capsule, rather than 60mg. If the stuff doesn't work, what difference does it make how much is actually there? - " joseph " <makas " Gettingwell " Tuesday, January 29, 2002 8:52 AM Consumer labs for vitamins > > this might be old news but its new to me. here is the url for a consumer > lab for vitamins. there is a free section and a paid section. I believe it has some value. It offers a little background info but the decision to take the supplement should be based on other sources of data.. . It is a help in choosing the brand of supplement. I decided to buy the less expensive glucosomine/chondroitin brand.after reading their report. They will not tell you what brands they tested that failed and why it failed. I feel that this is a flaw in their program since we would not know if a brand failed their test or was just not tested. I think that the brands they test are the ones requested by the manufacturer. I believe they have to pay a fee for that service. All in all, I probably will renew my subscription for the coming year because I know of no other guide to vitamin selection that is better. The cost is approximately $!6 which isn't a significant amount of money for me. Jean

It avoids them having to be careful in their testing and get it right because by not saying anything negative they are not open to legal action. E. g. Consumer Reports recently did an article on supplements and SCREWED UP THE CALCULATIONS to proclaim a NOW Foods product to not contain the labeled amount of material when in fact it did. So far NOW foods is being very nice, but this kind of thing is good for a quick trip to the courthouse, and then if indeed wrong, for another quick trip to the bank so your opponent can clean your account out. > I think that the brands > they test are the ones requested by the manufacturer.
