Guest guest
Donna, I would say no she isn't fine, but the doctor's thought is " why bother, she's 80, I'm not going to change her lifestyle now " . Much easier to give her pills. Before my grandmother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, her first doctor kept saying nothing was wrong with her. For reasons that escape me now, I understood him to mean " she's 70, smokes, overweight " , why bother. Her first surgeon (surgery was required before they figured out what it was) just closed her back up and said " sorry, nothing I can do " , gave us the impression she wasn't going to leave the hospital. Her third doctor and our family worked hard to keep her with us for another 18 months. I made her eat what I told her to and for a while she wasn't smoking. That experience taught me (if I didn't already know) that YOU and YOU alone are responsible for your health. A doctor is another tool at your disposal, but you have to be responsible. Are the doctors lazy? I don't know. Like many of us, many of them take the path of least resistance. I say this because my aunt and I have learned from the experience with my grandmother but other members of our family haven't. Guest guest
Lori I agree with you We all have a fre will and no one can change this.. I just feel very strongly that if a doctor aged 45 has a quadruple bipass and is overweight I think I would look for a new doctor He isnt taking care of himself much less his patients.Actually what has happened is that this doctor has had to give up his patients an d do research In a message dated 1/24/02 2:22:31 PM, llclj writes: << kept saying nothing was wrong with her.
