Guest guest
I'm not certain, but insofar as the quality of the oils are concerned, I believe that raw, unsalted pumpkin seeds are superior, and I seldom eat sunflower seeds, but must admit, I consider them a superior food, but not as good for my health as pumpkin seeds; besides which, I prefer the taste of pumpkin seeds. My doctor gave me the choice of the two, and suggested I alternate them from day to day; but, cautioned me to not consume more than 1 oz of either, each day. He was probably worried about weight gain, from any food with high concentrations of calorie-rich oils. I'm a six-footer, but he also told me to eat no more than 3 ozs of raw nuts for lunch, as protein, b-complex, vit. e, etc. sources, once more, probably, with concern that I not gain weight. He's a strict vegetarian. He considered excessive weight gain, one of the most harmful things anyone could do to their hope of achieving good health. - " t santorini " <santorini692001 Wednesday, January 23, 2002 6:12 PM sunflower seeds > > Lately I have been eating a lot of sunflower seeds, when my friends ask me i say that's good for me. but i don't really know anything about it!! Guest guest
There is a doctor in my town who is treating a women who is 60 pounds over weight -she has diabetes and a thyroid disorder he has no interest in treating the obesity and has actualy told her that if she feels good at 5'3 190 pounds she is probaby healthy. Is this insanity ?? the health insurance guidelines are far less than this Are these doctors lazy ? why isnt obesity an issue? He has her taking 5 prescriptions for HBP, diabetes thyroid , depression and cholestoral When her blood tests came back he said she had the blood work of a young person ( She is 80) so she believe s she is fine.. Keep eating those cakes and cookies and fried foods because your bloowork is excellent... she can barely walk because of neuropathy but she is fine.????? Ugh!! donna In a message dated 1/24/02 6:50:02 AM, wayne writes: << Still, I think doctors, like all of us, get hung up on certain ideas. Guest guest
Morning John, >>He considered excessive weight gain, one of the most harmful things anyone >could do to their hope of achieving good health. One new study says exactly the same thing. Seems it stated that being overweight was a bigger health threat that 3 other things, .......... trying to remember...... One was smoking, the other was being poverty stricken, ..... sorry, I can't remember. Maybe some of our research experts on here will have the complete article. Still, I think doctors, like all of us, get hung up on certain ideas. No matter what ails you, the doctors say, Exercise and they say loose weight. After I lost 30 pound, and was exercising regular, my blood pressure was higher that it has ever been. So..... these guys were dead wrong about this. Plus, I was eating lots of raw stuff, trail mix, and eating as good as I ever have. Been trying to figure out who set these blood pressure normals, and when. If it was the AMA or AHA, likely this is as flawed and corrupt as everything else they have done. The point is, the genius master chemist inside me sets the blood pressure required to get the job done. If I had been taking drugs to " reduce " the reading to some number set by someone, I know beyond any doubt that my cells would have suffered over the years and I would certainly be less healthy than I am today. The sawbones tried to make me a heart patient about 20 years ago. I said " no thank you " . After all, I can bet my life at any odds I see fit, even play Russian roulette if I want to. They even tried to tell me I had a heart attack in times past. NO WAY ! In recent years, they tell me I have a defective heart valve. What else will they do to try to get me addicted to their treatment. The Cardiologist charged $ 1000.00 to tell me I had a defective valve and tell me to take an aspirin every day. Why I was fool enough to go there for that test amazes me. Now I have one doctor that refuses to see me and fit my implant device that I can buy directly from the manufacturer. I woke up at 4am feeling like a million dollars. Could be the heavier than normal workout with the weights yesterday pm. Yes, it will be a great day, as long as no doctor crosses my path. Darn.... I have to go to the dentist before long. That will be a bad day, whenever it happens. Of all the doctors I know, the only one I like is a psychiatrist. Maybe I need to go see him and get my mind fixed. Wayne
Guest guest
Wayne It has gone through my head, that the quality of food you eat to get fat, has something to do with how much of a problem overweight is. I believe all excessive weight is a serious problem, but you can overeat a lot of junk foods, and get fat; and you can eat a far higher quality of food, and also get fat. It may be, that in the latter case, we're a bit better off. What is the " implant device " you're talking about? I may be mistaken, but the English docs, don't start treating BP, until the systolic reaches, at least, 160. In this country, they prefer to start at 140 systolic. The belief appears to be, that higher blood pressure readings are much more likely to damage blood vessels exposed to the greater pressures. But, once more, could there be a difference from individual to individual, in the health of the arteries exposed to these pressures, and how much of this is influenced by diet? This all starts to give me a headache thinking about it; we're a long way from the carefree, mindlessness with which we ate everything in sight, when we were kids. Guest guest
Morning John, >>It has gone through my head, that the quality of food you eat to get fat, >has something to do with how much of a problem overweight is. I agree with you, 100 %. > I believe all >excessive weight is a serious problem, but you can overeat a lot of junk >foods, and get fat; and you can eat a far higher quality of food, and also >get fat. It may be, that in the latter case, we're a bit better off. The amount of work we do relative to what we eat is somewhat out of balance. For example, my father and grandfather, ( likely yours as well ) did many times the work we do in a day. Consequently, they could eat 4000, 6000, maybe even 8000 calories. Of course they needed this for energy, but what about all the nutrients that went thru their bodies? They did not need the supplements we need because of the larger quantity of food they consumed would provide more nutrients. >What is the " implant device " you're talking about? This a cochlear implant. Part of it is in my head. The other part is in my shirt pocket. It is actually an embedded computer that functions as a speech processor. I never expected it to work so well. But, once more, could there be a difference from individual to >individual, in the health of the arteries exposed to these pressures, and >how much of this is influenced by diet? I have read that some American doctors did not treat until it reached 170. I have one friend that is at least 100 pounds overweight. His blood pressure is lower than mine, usually 120/80 or close to it. Likely, more exercise is the only thing that will lower my blood pressure. So.... I have started to increase the frequency of exercise. I plan to exercise every day, alternating between the treadmill and weights. On the days that I go hiking or hunting, I will of course not do either of these. The all day on the feet and a few miles with a pack in rough terrain should be as good or better. I hate to disagree with Greg on anything. He always has an answer. But.... it takes me an hour to do a 30 minute workout. I am reaching the point whereas I can do each weight routine without much rest time between. So... maybe in a few weeks, I can do it in 30 minutes. Sometimes I like to do 3 sets of each exercise. That takes a little time. >This all starts to give me a headache thinking about it; we're a long way >from the carefree, mindlessness with which we ate everything in sight, when >we were kids. One of the wisest men I have known in this world was a scholar in world history and religion, as well as nutrition. We discussed these issues often. Here is what he said....... " after you eat what you need, you can eat anything else you want " . I am sure he meant, " within reason " . Still, I think that reasonably healthy people can indulge in a few NON-approved foods from time to time. Still, I have myself so brainwashed that I simply have to avoid certain foods. If I find myself in a situation where I am forced to eat bad foods, I can do it. To solve this problem I keep a several day supply of food in my truck with at least a 3 day supply of water. I don't have to drink city water or eat junk food because I have some of my preferred food and drink with me at all times. Wayne
