Guest guest
My experience: When I was growing up (born in '61), broccoli and cauliflower weren't that popular in the South. My mother didn't like either. I was in college the first time I tried both. I wouldn't have recognised cabbage unless it had been cooked to death with lots of bacon fat. I was out of college the first time I saw brussel sprouts. My friends' mother tried to describe them as " little cabbages " . that didn't make sense to me. (see previous paragraph) While living in Australia, I had a heated discussion with an Irish friend about grocery shopping. He wanted to buy iceberg lettuce which I thought had no taste. It had been rare and rather expensive in Ireland and he thought this was a good deal.
