Guest guest
Hi, folks, I've just read about a new product from Blackmores that claims to do all the right things for cholesterol. It's called Policosanol and is derived from the waxy stems of sugar cane! You can read about it at www.blackmores.com.au Any thoughts on this? Love, Jo, in Sydney

Guest guest
Hi Jo, Some Policosanol is made from beezwax and is not suitable but that made from sugarcane is probably ok. Blackmores ethics gives me pause however. They use botanical names to make one think they are selling something special. Policosanol is mostly Octocosanol which is available everywhere. They also sell Proseren for the prostate. The common name for that is Saw Palmetto. Guest guest
I was not at all happy with the lack of information on the Blackmores site so I did a web search. Here is some more information: http://www.tnp.com/encyclopedia/substance/1000/ http://www.policosanol.com/monograph.htm Alobar - <marianne2406 Sunday, January 20, 2002 3:23 AM Re: Cholesterol > In a message dated 20/1/02 01:22:24 GMT Standard Time, jorudd > writes: > > Not being an expert - having read all the information, I would certainly be > willing to give it a try. Guest guest
Alobar Thank you for those sites. I've just sent off an e-mail to Swanson Health Products, informing them that I'll have to return the Policosanol I recently ordered from them, if their product is derived from beeswax. Apparently, policosanol is of no value when derived from beeswax. Swanson has it in a bottle of 60,10mg tabs, for $8.99. Guest guest
Ron Sounds like you're saying that policosanol is a name applied to a " complex " of substances, and that the various elements should be listed by amount, and that the quantity of the element known as policosanol, should be present in the greatest amount. This stuff isn't the most expensive supplement on the market, but it isn't cheap either. - " the desert_rat " <ron Sunday, January 20, 2002 8:07 AM Re: Cholesterol > Hi Jo, > Some Policosanol is made from beezwax and is not suitable but that made > from sugarcane is probably ok. > Blackmores ethics gives me pause however.
