I wouldn;t say any of it is safe - but there are ones you can buy over here

from the health shop that done contain certain nasties - cannot remember

offhand which ones they are.

Sorry I am not much help - I don't use them.

Punks, Goths, and Ravers use colorants rather than dyes (I do too).

No peroxide bleaches & no ammonia. Not as permanent, and does not bleach

the hair first, so you may need a pre-bleaching (which is always nasty

stuff!). I have been using colorants for over a decade. I doubt if one

can get a " natural " color using these colarants. Mostly people use it to

look bright & punky. The brand I find best & longest lasting is Special

Effects. Color samples here:

Hi there! Even the dyes in the health food stores contain nasties, I

agree. I've even questioned a " benzene-compound " in one dye to the

store manager. There is a dye my hairstylist was using, which used some

sort of " fermentation process " , he called it a " mash " , which allowed

penetration of dye to hair follicle. So, the product is out there, but

available to professionals only. I've tried Internet searches, can't

find the products. Maybe best just to go natural, as hennas are only

temporary, and safe products are hard to get. Steve

Interesting article... I have used henna in the past and it lasted forever. I

think I had to grow it out... Maybe my memory is porous (where is that ginkgo

when I need it??:-) or maybe it just took a very long time to wash out. The

colorless henna is a very nice product too to beautify hair.

Hi,

I bought 'Naturtint' at Vitamin Shoppe...it is Permanent Hair Colorant

with Vegetable Ingredients..No Ammonia. The box is dark green and the

Ingredients are written in light black (very small print). One needs 10/10

vision to read it. A search on the internet revealed the following

ingredients and description. (same as on box) Doesn't seem particularly safe

to me.

Jean
