(although at first they looked at me like " what??? you think we're going to eat that? what IS IT?? " One actually went on a bit of a hunger strike, so I combined with a tsp. of canned food lightly stirred in at the beginning. For about the first 3 months i was cooking the grains and chopping the veggies... after that I found out about Sojourner's Farms and now it's so much easier. They sell a dry mix that has all the human-grade grains mix and kelp and other stuff.. You rehydrate it by soaking with water, then mix with the raw meat. I also add the Healthy Powder, which is the same recipe as you listed but has kelp powder also. It's from Dr. Pitcairn's Natural Health for cats and Dogs book. I make up 2 days at a time, and have containers in the freezer with the meat for 2 days. Yeah, it's more trouble than pouring kibble into a bowl but it's worth it... And I'm a vegetarian, so of course I'd rather not deal with the meat.... But I'm convinced it's the way to go, and so I go to what extra trouble it is, and will probably save time and money down the road on vet bills... Jody, cats are the ultimate carnivores. They do better without *any* grains. Commercial pet food (??!?) companies need to add grains to the artificial food so it can be extruded into cute shapes. They don't even need veggies. They do great with just chopped raw meat. You guessed it.....I'm from BARF!! Starris

I suspect they need some greens & veggies. I know I have had cats go wild on wheat grass. Alobar
