Doc) When holding points, it is best to hold the first points on both sides and then the second points on both sides. Donna has said it looks like it hooks up better than doing first one side and then the other. I have always done pain chasing beginning at the end of the meridian that is on the head or torso and ending at the finger or toe so that the energy can then be " chased " off of the appendage. (TW ends at the eye. You sure don't want to move the excess energy into the eye). However, Chris is right - the description of pain chasing in the book definitely describes moving from " beginning " to " end " , but I don't think this was meant to dictate the direction. Tinnitus, like pain, is always excess energy and going backwards on a meridian is one way to remove that excess. So I would pain chase TW down the arm and off the 4th finger. One thing I didn't mention was to sedate TW first before doing the pain chasing. And if the pain reaches the finger and intensifies and/or won't move off, hold the sedating points for a few seconds to get it to release or else it might back up into the body. I understand Dana's point about holding points and it makes sense to test whether there's over-energy or under-energy when you're trying to determine what state a meridian is in, but in this case sedating is indicated. Tinnitus is over-energy and you're trying to release that excess. The idea is to see if it kidney meridian is holding the over-energy because kidney meridian governs the ears. Holding sedating points does not cause any harm if the meridian isn't overenergized. As for kidney exercises, a simple and effective one is to flush the kidney meridian. This means trace the meridian (found on pg. 104) backwards once and forward three times. Massage deeply around the ankle bones. Rub or thump K-27 each time you trace. Massage that magical K-1 point (pg. 111) where the Chi enters the body. And massage deeply all of the kidney neurolymphatic points that you can reach. (pg. 84) I hope that the work on kidney and triple warmer will relieve the ringing. Kaelin
