Hi there,I've been pretty quiet on this list, but autism is something I especially have experience with. It is often very helpful to allow children (and adults) with autism lots and lots of time outside in nature. It is best to be barefoot on the ground, although sometimes, as a condition of the autism, the feet are too sensitive for this. Many children benefit from associations with animals as well, dogs or horseback riding for example. Small pets like hamsters are not recommended because they tend to be kind of nervous and may be more upsetting than healing for a child. Nature and animals seem to help autistic children ground themselves and autism seems, in my experience, to be associated with a condition of the lower energy centers which makes it a little more difficult for autistic children to connect fully with their bodies and with the earth. Anything you can do to help your child move his awareness and energy down towards his feet will be helpful and allow him to engage his attention more outwardly, to connect more to other people and to be more aware of his social surroundings. So, foot rubs, if he can tolerate them, maybe with a grounding essential oil like clary sage or sandalwood, and letting him be barefoot as much as possible. If he has episodes of over-excitement or real spaciness, you can help him learn to direct his own attention to his feet and legs. All of this helps the energy flow normally through the lower chakras. There is a very wide range of behaviors and conditions that are all called autism. Behavior therapy works for some, though it's main concern is teaching behaviors that are acceptable in a classroom. For a more holistic approach, check out the book: Son-Rise, the MIracle Continues by Barry Neil Kaufman. Be sure, especially if you are buying a used copy, to get the latest edition from 1994, as it has the most updated story. I'm glad you are finding some success with your naturopath and I acknowledge you for your concern about the impact of autism on the whole family and for reaching out to find other alternatives. It seems as if you are thinking and taking actions that will surely support your child. I think EFT could be very helpful for everyone as, no doubt, every family member is impacted it their own way. My best to you and your family on this journey. Sue
