Guest guest
Hello. I am new to this forum and to acupuncture. I live in a semi- rural area without a lot of health options. I have been having some strange sort of nerve pain in my second toe on my left foot for several weeks. Doctors couldn't help me, so I sought out the only acupuncture therapist in my town. The pain is an electric sort of pain and it goes on for about 5 seconds and off for about 60 seconds. Sometimes it stops for hours. It is much worse at night. I have had 3 treatments from the acupuncture therapist. The first one wasn't so bad except for one needle near my toe REALLY hurt for a minute or so. Same with the second treatment. I have noticed maybe a very small improvement in the frequency and intensity of the toe pain. But now my left calf is quite sore. I went for a third treatment and could not tolerate it well at all. After I had 3 needles placed in my shin area, I could not move or be touched without a terrible pain starting at the top of my foot and going all the way up my leg. I was able to lie as still as possible for about 15 minutes, but I could not tolerate any more needles. It hurt to walk for awhile after the treatment. Is this sort of thing typical? How often should I go for treatments to be effective? I am really not wanting to go back right now. I wonder if this therapist is making me better or making me worse. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Ruth in Wisconsin
