This last point is debatable, and I am not sure that I > believe it, I sure have never read anything about phyotestrogens causing trouble. Susun Weed for instance lists symptoms - like hot flashes, and some others and then says use dong quai, black cohosh, etc.(phytoestrogens) and then other symptoms require a progesterone balancing herb. > other info that I will try to dig up tomorrow that might be more helpful. THANK YOU > In the meantime, there are MANY phytoestrogens...I have lists of them I got > from Jim Dukes site...and they are not all good or useful for us to take. I will look up his site - not all good or useful for us to take concerns me. Maybe Susun Weed just doesn't mention the baddies or maybe I need to re-read her book. The only problem I have with her book is it is hard to find things from the index - black cohosh for instance would list 20 pages and they are not easy to find ...I seem to know a lot about the phytoestrogens but not the progesterone balancing ones...... > I do not think that there ARE any progesterone rich herbs, by the > way.. I don't think so either, got carried away in my post, figured you would catch this and it was late when I posted too.<g>............ > Vitex also does not contain progesterone, but helps the body balance > progesterone. > The building block of all these hormones is cholesterol, by the way...and > the body converts some hormones into others...it is not as simple as just > taking a lot of plant estrogens and other plant hormones to balance out our > body's dwindling supplies here...not simple at all (otherwise I would > understand it better).. I wish it was simple and almost glad to see you are a little confused too <g>. I have had to start researching this further because I feel I am in the next phase of menopause. I was taking a combination capsule of mostly dong quai, some black and blue cohosh, cramp bark, and blessed thistle. I have been taking a reduced amount from the instructions for 2 years and just recently the full dose as the hot flashes were getting hotter. That is really my only sympton (54 years old and still in perimenopause). Of course, the Rose and Lavender Tea (potluck) I had in my garden on Saturday didn't help to keep me from eating all of the wrong things. But I had to be polite and try everything <g> - wonderful recipes - edible flowers in salads, lavender cheesecake to die for, home made breads with herb butters, rosepetal and raspberry punch - makes my mouth water just thinking about it all. As a matter of fact, some of it is still in my fridge-it pays to host it.... Actually this sort of thing is good for the soul and I really had a wonderful time. > But I need to dig up this other info and refresh myself on this... Sure would like the information you find. http://www.scentsappeal.net ---------- --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
