Guest guest
some info from the menopaus list... What are some of the non-HRT methods of dealing with menopause? Taking vitamin E is said to help, but it must be natural vitamin E, not synthetic. The ingredients list on the label should say D-Alpha Tocopheryol. If it says DL-Alpha Tocopherol or has the word 'acetate' it's not what you want - it's synthetic. Vitamins B5 and B6 are both good for hot flashes and other symptoms. A B-complex vitamin should also be taken to prevent the other B vitamins from becoming unbalanced. Borage Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, and Flaxseed Oil are sources of essential fatty acids that help with many of the symptoms of menopause. Others prefer the benefits of ginseng, dong quai and other herbs. But the overwhelming choice of many is Mexican yam cream. All of these things can be found at your local health food store. There are several good books that can help you make good decisions about which herbs to use for which symptoms Many of us have found relief from Vit B-5 (Pantothenic Acid), B-6, Vit. E, and soy isoflavones. If you have a trustworthy health food store you might be able to get some help--Remifemin is available there--it is widely used in Europe, as are other Menopause formulas. Evening Primrose Oil has vitamin E, prostaglandins, and linolenic acid in it. The prostaglandins would make it a progesterone, not an estrogen. Dong Quai will stop hot flashes but won't protect against osteoporosis and heart disease. I posted a while back that I had tried Dong Quai and Black Cohosh for hot flashes, insomnia, and mood swings. I have been taking about 1300mg of Dong Quai and about 500mg of Black Cohosh daily. Note that these are both phytoestrogens, so I'm taking unopposed estrogen; however, I'm a hysterectomy patient, so I don't need progesterone. If you have a uterus, unopposed estrogens are not cool, since they can contribute to the possiblity of endometrial cancer. I have been taking the Dong Quai and Black Cohosh for about a week, now. I was having a few hot flashes a day and terrible insomnia. The second day taking these I was down to one hot flash. I slept very well from the first day. I have had no hot flashes since beginning to experiment with these two herbs. http://www.scentsappeal.net ---------- --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
