Good Day Brothers and Sisters,

Its Tuesday, 28th October 2008

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

This special Diwali editorial (normally reserved only for

Premium members of the Cybugle newsletter) is being sent

to the as well,

seeing the timing of its posting .....

But the first edition was sent to all you My premium rs

The festival of lights beckons one once again ..

Like all festivals from every Faith, it is a celebration

And Like all festivals of every Faith, we have forgotten what??

what it is a celebration of ??

And like all festivals of all Faiths, we don't care,

so long as the motions are being adhered to ...

Welcome to celebration mania in the 21st century ...

Voila!!!!!!! !!!

A couple of years back I had sent in a post talking about

the significance of the festival - as to How the love of a people

for its King (who was returning home after an exile) turned

the darkest night (Kartik Amavasya) into one of the

most auspicious -

Lighting Lamps to light the path of their beloved King,

the new moon night had acquired a radiance and brilliance

envied by even full moon nights ............

Such was the Power of Love

Love of subjects towards their King

Love of the denizens of Ayodhya for Rama ...

A similar Love was expresed by those from Vrindawan

for Krishna when he was leaving for his studies towards the Gurukul ..

The whole kingdom had turned up teary eyed to somehow

lessen their grief of seperation from their King ...

But that was Tretayug (Silver age) and Dwaparyug (Bronze age) ..

Today we have democratically elected leaders, who can make the

most peaceful among us take to violence like a fish takes to water ..

Wringing their necks would be an activity almost orgasmic

in the sensations it would generate ...

But it is a time for festivities and I would rather train my focus on

the positivity it denotes than expend it on writing another

morose long editorial on the ills plaguing our society ...

There is a time to be proactive and there is a time to let

things be and allow them to work or expend themselves out ...

which I hope sincerely is what happens ...

Today on the midnight of 27th of October 2008,

as I pen my good wishes to you all,

I share some of my thoughts and sentiments with you ...

Today on Diwali (also known as Deepawli - festival of Lights),

Hindus all over celebrate it as the return of Lord Rama back to Ayodhya

after an exile of 14 years and also after winning the battle with Ravana

who had taken away his consort Sita away to Lanka using guile and force ..

There is a strong metaphysical significance to the whole story of

Ramayana (as it is known - The Story of Rama)

Rama stands for the awakened consciousness

Sita is the innocent soul who is a part of Rama

Ravana stands for the desires of the flesh which enslave

us by appealing to our innocence and ignorance ...

Only by the time we realise it, its too late to escape ...

Hanuman and Lakshman represent the self disciplining

energies and powers of the Divine that assist in carrying out

the work of God, and in the drama played out on the stage on Earth,

they are the supporting cast that are woven into the play

for bringing and opening our minds and hearts to awakedness ...

The return of Rama is a return to the abode of the Lord in heaven ..

on a path lighted by the light of hundreds of awakened souls

driving away the darkness of ignorance in welcoming their Lord back ..

Cleaning our houses is symbolic of this very clearing of the path ..

Goddess Lakshmi represents the favours of the Lord which are

bestowed on those seen as fit vessels of the Lord's Grace ...

Some who are not deserving are qualified by Lord Himself

due to the favour they enjoy with God

The analogy is simple ...

Those whom we love and who love us do not require the

formality of rituals and gifts and offerings (which in a way

are nothing but vanity of the heart,

unless they are offered with complete Love and devotion )

in which case they are merely the vessel for conveying Love ..

and whether the glass be of silver of gold or clay,

its the water in it that is of importance to the one who is thirsting ...

God thirsts for our Love

Not our gifts

Those whom we Love, we ask without reservations for any favours

and rest assured in the Heart knowledge that the favour will be granted ..

If you have established a bond of Love and devotion with Shri Hari Vishnuji,

Lakshmiji's favours are already with you - for a woman will bless those

who revere and respectfully serve Her Lord with devotion ...

Such verily enjoy her favours as a child enjoys a Mothers' favours ..

The best way to thus propitiate the Goddess of wealth is by

serving and gaining favour of Her Lord Shri Hari Vishnu ...

Shri Vishnuji represents the nourishing and sustaining aspect of the Trinity ..

Compassion and sharing are thus His natural attributes ...

as opposed to hoarding and coveting ....

It follows that those who share with compassion what they have

with their fellow humans are the ones favoured by the Goddess

for bestowing her favours ...

There is another interesting aspect to Vishnuji's character

In an episode from Lord Krishna's Life, when his poverty stricken friend

Sudama visited him and brought some puffed rice as a gift,

When Sudama came to the palace, surprisingly enough,

no one stopped him.

He looked through various rooms and

finally located Krishna and Rukmini.

When Krishna saw Sudama he ran to

embrace him. Then Krishna sat down

and washed Sudama's tired feet with

warm water and put sandalwood paste

on them.

After the royal meal, they all settled down

to chat. Krishna and Sudama exchanged

the happenings of their lives since they

departed from Sandipani's hermitage.

Suddenly Krishna noticed a small bundle

on Sudama's waist. He remarked,

"Ah! You have brought a present for me!"

Sudama hesitated, "How do I give a king, a poor man's Powa?"

When Krishna noticed that Sudama was ashamed to give him the bundle,

he remarked, "Sudama, the poorest gifts given to me with love

is dearer to me than the richest of gifts given without love."

Then he quickly snatched off

the bundle and opened it.

There it was, his favorite

Powa! He tossed some

in his mouth with great

satisfaction.

Shri Krishna took one,

then the second and then

just as He was about to

take the third mouthful,

He was stopped

by his wife Rukmini

with a loving chide as to how much would he bestow on his friend

whose needs had been fulfilled many times over ...

With the first bite, Sudama's house in his village had become a mansion

The second one had filled his coffers with Gold and gems ...

Devi Rukmini by preventing the third bite was just restraining the Lord

from going overboard with his generosity ....

That is the Lord's attribute - an over abundant generous heart

that has to be balanced by proper discrimination ...

Compassion, giving and doing it with discrimination = Shri Vishnuji

Acquire these and abundance (as Lakshmiji) will bless you for ever ...

On this Diwali, as I leave you with these thoughts,

I hope and pray that our consciousness and minds awaken

to the wisdom that will illuminate our Path towards our Salvation ...

A Path that we walk on cheerfully ...

For Since God loves a cheerful giver, our gifts from the heart

do indeed enrich us much more than we can ever grasp it in material terms .

Compete with God in giving to God and sharing with Him

Believe me, you won't bother with the result,

you'll be too ecstatic interacting with Divinty ....

Wishing you all a happy Diwali and a prosperous New year

I have attached some gifts with this issue itself ..

I hope they all turn out to be useful and joyful

Some of you may have trouble receiving them all

Just let me know if you didn't get any file

and want me to send it again to you ...

I would like to Thank Mr. Ramachandran for sending me a Diwali card

and Thanks to all among you who responded with good wishes

on my messenger and the following message sent by

Colonel Naresh Rastogi, which is so very right

in the context of the current sentiments ruling the nation

is the best conclusion to this issue today
