Guest guest
Hi everyone, I wonder if any of you know anything about the effect of surgery upon the libido? I am currently treating a lady (with acupuncture)who has lost her sex drive following the removal of her ovaries. The reason for the hysterectomy was endometriosis. Since the op she feels fine physically, but has undergone a personality change. Previously a carefree type she now fluctuates between tearfullness and irritabilty, and feels a constant tension in her forehead, though this has dimminished considerably since I have been treating her. She has had five treatments so far, using calming points and nourishing yin & kidney energy. She gets a feeling of well-being after each treatment for about four of five days and is improving slowly, but her libido is still at zero. Her doctor has been dismissive of her problem, saying that the HRT that she is on should sort her out and that if it doesn't she should go for sex councelling. She is obviously reluctant to do this as she didn't have a problem pre- hysterectomy and her partner is loving and supportive. What puzzles me is that obviously from a western viewpoint she has lost the ovaries and therefore the majority of the supply of hormones that produce the sex drive. But what about from the TCM viewpoint? Please can anybody shed any light?
