--- Briefly, the triple burner or San Jiao channel is

another " organ " pathway channel within the body. Unlike the other

meridians there is no physical organ that corresponds to the San

Jiao . The triple burner has varied functions. It is responsible for

moving Yuan qi (the energy you are born with or your source qi)

throughout the body. For this reason it is also known as the triple

heater or triple energizer.

There is a San Jiao school which states that the body is

divided into three jiaos or sections. Each section has its own

function. The upper Jiao is from the diaphragm up (Heart, Lungs,

Pericardium, throat and head), the mid Jiao is from the diaphragm to

the umbilicus (Stomach, Spleen, and Gallbladder), and the area below

the umbilicus is the low Jiao (Liver, Kidneys, Intestines, and

Bladder).

Upper Jiao: distributes the fluids in a mist-like form all over the

body through the use of the Lungs.

Mid Jiao: digests and transports the essential nourishment from food

and drink to the whole body (coincides with the stomach).

Low Jiao: separates the pure from the dirty in our foods and

fluids. This functions ensures excretion of urine and defecation.

It corresponds to the functions of the Intestines in Western

medicine but in Tcm also includes the bladder and kidneys.

The pathway begins on the tip of your ring finger to the wrist and

then veers to your left to begin to go up the center of your lower

arm (dorsal.. not the palm side) and then ascends.

A nice diagram is available at :

By the way Monica ,

If your practicioner feels you are too weak for acupuncture perhaps

they can prescribe a customized herbal formula made from a raw tea

or granules to begin to build your body. If this is not within their

scope ask that they suggest a herbalist or find another

practicioner......
