My intuitions says, use the hands for the chakras.

 

Left hand for clearing, right hand for energizing. Much you can do

with the hands on chakras that is NOT possible with the crystal.

 

Now AFTER they are cleared and energized, I do use the crystals for

certain special tasks on the chakra spiritual system.
