Guest guest
Weekly Consciousness Tune-Up September 12th - September 18th, 2004 This is it. We're heading into Rosh Hashanah this week. During these powerful days, there is something you must keep in your thoughts at all times: Ask for Everything. The teachings of Kabbalah say that if we begin each year as a pauper then we will conclude the year wealthy. If you understand this metaphor, you can guarantee for yourself a great year ahead. The thinking goes that on the first day of the year, you have nothing; you are poor and destitute. You must come to the Light to ask for everything back again. The sages have taught us that on Rosh Hashanah we must ask for the big things - money, love, health - and the little things as well. We must ask with the understanding that on Rosh Hashanah we are starting anew, therefore each and every detail of our life - even the tiniest - has to be asked for once again. The explanation for this is simple. If you do not ask, you cannot receive, and if you do not build the vessel, it cannot be filled. As I said last week, our natural tendency is to focus on what we don't have. This tendency must be reversed on Rosh Hashanah. During this window in time, force yourself if you have to and be genuinely amazed and appreciative of what the Light has given you. Ideally, simply meditating on all the complex parts and processes of your body alone will trigger your appreciation. As you go through all the " gifts " you have been given, ask the Light to give them to you again for the following year. Of course it is impossible to enumerate every detail of our life that the Light has given us. When was the last time you appreciated your tensor tympani muscle (it is attached to your eardrum and allows you to hear.) Nevertheless, when you come to Rosh Hashanah, come with the consciousness that you come completely empty-handed, without a thing, and you are asking from the Light not only for the big things, but also for even the smallest detail. This is the explanation of what Kabbalah means by " if the beginning of the year is poor. " When a person feels poor on Rosh Hashanah, he has the vessel to truly be filled with all of his desires. With this great secret in your mind throughout Rosh Hashanah, the year ahead will be one of plenty, one of spiritual and physical abundance.
