Guest guest
Could your body piercings have anything to do with your chronic bladder disease? The short answer is " we don't know " . The two piercings you describe are two of the classic acupuncture points that are " forbidden to needle " points. As many times as I have asked professors and colleagues about this, none of them seem to know what will happen if you do needle them! OTOH, I'm sure that some practitioners could come up with what they feel is a justifiable reason why piercings are harmful and that they affect the involved meridians through which they penetrate. The nipple piercing is through Stomach 17 and the navel through Ren 8 (Conception Vessel). I personally don't agree with them unless you have a chronic inflammation at the piercing site. On a personal note, I have had body piercings for about 13 years and they don't present a problem. There is a story in the acupuncture community that relates why pirates had one earlobe pierced with a gold ring. Gold is a tonifying metal, and the piercing was through the prime eye point on the ear, thus enabling them to see better. Ask questions of any practitioner, whether they be Western biomedicine or TCM. And remember, people tend to associate cause and effect when in reality, it is often coincidence.
