I actually live in Tokyo and was studying acupuncture for a while with the Beijing University of Traditional Japan Branch. I gave up, but am still interested in acupuncture. You asked which word more common, acupuncturator or acupuncturist. I think acupuncturist is more common. I have never heard the word acupuncturator before.
