Guest guest
Tony, Insurance rates vary greatly by plan, age, area of residence and actual coverage plus how many family members are covered. What Helen quoted seems VERY high. You can also get a very high deductible that covers major medical expenses for a lower premium. It certainly is worthwhile to check different plans including Kaiser and Blue Cross/Anthem? I understand that some plans cover alternative treatments like acupuncture. Guest guest
And -- what they call pre-existing conditions. If you just cover yourself, it's really expensive. I want to get our all our employees covered, but have to get the number up to 8 - 12 to get Kaiser without having to submit pre-existing conditions for everyone.I'm looking into getting catastrophic -- because I don't take any meds and have really good "numbers" (blood pressure, bone mass, resting pulse)My older sister was quoted about $30,000 - $50,000 because she had had a very rare and aggressive cancer 20 years ago. So she went without insurance for about 10 years. She just made medicare about 2 years ago -- and has incurred about $500,000 in medical expenses since then.... Guest guest
Hi Helen, Having my own business, I understand where you are coming from. This whole debate is not logical, it's very emotional and a lot of people listen to certain talk radio and absolutely get paranoid. It's unbelievable. My position is that I can take care of myself, emotionally and physically and energetically. I'm healthy and I stay healthy and it has nothing to do with good genetics and everything to do with a good attitude. I would love to see a public option or a single payer system. I would like to see the kind of system that I personally have experienced living in Australia and my daughter experienced living in France. Awesome treatment, terrific experience. This is selfish on my part because I have lost countless potential good employees and good agents that just have to have a job that offers health insurance. I can't afford to provide this insurance as a small business. So I'm stuck with people that are covered under their spouses insurance. I have also spoken to many people over the years that would have loved to have the courage to start their own business but they don't because they have a family and don't want to take the risk of not having affordable health insurance. In my opinion, if we are successful in passing affordable health reform, we are going to see a healthy jump in small business start ups. My 2 cents... Guest guest
Hey Lillie -- Exactly! The whole thing is really dumb. Especially since I know that most of the " froth " is drummed up by people who make a ton speculating all that insurance $ and all those pension funds. Which is why it used to be the unions who were corrupt - all that pension fund $ fueled the mobs back in the day. When " they " start pushing emotional buttons, it's a good idea to look deeper.
