Greetings Everyone,

Just thought that I would like to respond to the " Indian Medicine Wheel and Crow

Person " .

I am First Nations from Canada or Indigenous descent from Turtle Island. (Canada

and USA). I come from the Ojibway Nation, we come from around the great lakes

area, parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin, parts of Manitoba and Ontario.

Let me begin by explaining the " Medicine Wheel " . The earth as we know it is

round, hence medicine wheel. It is divided up into 4 quadrants. Thus, 4 ethnic

core groups that make up the earth:

from the East quadrant the Native Americans; the South quadrant the Asians; the

West quadrant the black; and North, the Caucasian. The earth is made up of

everything in 4's...we have four seasons. We have 4 stages in which we go thru

in life: East, the beginnings (baby); South, the Youth; West the Adult; North,

Elderly stage. And so on and so on. This is a very simple way of looking at the

self and how we fit in on this earth. Thus, " everything is related " this is why

we say " all my relations " . I also want to mention if we take our individual

selves and we are then also cut up into 4 quadrants, emotional, mental, physical

and spiritual. We are all smaller circles connected to the bigger cirlce -

" Medicine Wheel " .

In my travels we have never mixed up astrology with the teachings of the

medicine wheel. I also want to explain about totems....this was also our way,

every Nation on Turtle Island has their own laws of how they governed themselves

before contact of Europeans. They used the " clan " system hence, the Totem. It

all has to do with your birth and who your parents are and what your ancestors

did.

I do not offend anyone by my sharing. But when I see things such as the Totems

and the " astrology " mixed in with the Native American Teachings. I thought I

should speak up and share. Native Americans are the subject of

" indigenization " , whereas, Non-native americans write what they think Native

Americans are like. Kinda like romaticizing the ways of our people.
